Ouch !
Could be worse. You could waste £500 on a set of golf bats.  :D

Yesterday got an MOT pass on the black Omega.

Advisory for front chassis legs, both sides have previously been plated where the engine subframe mount point strengthening plate is. I think some time stripping all the underseal back to see what horrors are presented is required. I think the biggest issue will be if the leg is getting thin by the  steering box location.

I'd be more concerned about the rot spreading backwards along the chassis rails into the bulkhead and floor, which is a much more involved repair. While you're poking around with a screwdriver, check the horizontal fronts of the rails from under the bonnet.

Realistically, serious rot in any of these places is a car killer.

From initial investigation, floor, bulkhead and chassis rails working backwards are good. More investigation obviously required but too wet and miserable for me to spend anymore time on it today

cost including the purchase approaching £40,000

That's an insane amount for a B! But still, if it's what he wants and has the money, why not!
.

He's a complete fanatic about MGBs his ambition is to have the best V8 in the UK , nothing has been neglected in the restoration of the car , but his other half has no idea what he has spent on it so far.

I've been helping a neighbour sort out a few issues with his but don't think I  could  muster enough love for something with such terrible handling.

I have this warped idea that an MGC would make a great classic, even though I know it would handle like a dog on polished lino.

I probably need help. ::)

Visually, I get it. But having shoe-horned myself in and out of my dad's e-type on a few occasions, I can't imagine owning something so small as a B.

And if I were spending £40k on a weekend car, it would probably have an Aston badge on the nose, rather than MG.  :y

I believe the MGC can be made to handle a lot better than it did[you'd be hard pressed to make it handle worse  :D] Drove a showroom[unregistered]example "B" in '82.Awful thing as I recall and definitely not for me.Liked the Stag I had a go in in the same year, could be a contender especially as it's well documented engine issues have long since been sorted out.

Got to say that I completely agree with you, could get a very nice Aston Martin for 40k, the daft thing is he's spent all this money & it will spend most of its time in a garage .

Often the way.

If you're that set on having the best of whatever, even normal use would be seen as degrading it.

I would much rather a used but well maintained example that I can just get in and drive without worrying in degrading a museum piece.

Plenty of lovely DB7 out there which would leave you with enough change out of £40k to buy a TDV8 RR for the winter 🤣

There's a strong case for buying a Cat D or N version of whatever posh toy you fancy as it is already tarnished... Whatever mileage you put on it won't devalue it any and it will be a fair bit cheaper to begin with. ;)

In fact, I nearly had a moment on the first roundabout - with only half of the V8 firing. ;D

Drove it through a ford that was a little deep, no ill effects.  Then found the road was blocked by an abandoned horse box, nobody around, so had to go back through the ford and find another way...

I found the video of the tractor going through Rufford Ford at the weekend quite amusing, I did wonder where the concrete blocks that had been placed to close the road had gone, after a minute, it became obvious  ;D

Anyone know how far it is to go around the ford? Other than to stop the halfwits that try to drive though at speed why did they need to block it off? If you have a vehicle  that's capable of driving through the ford when it's at normal water levels why not let them  :-\

That JD is an impressive piece of kit!

I do wonder how confident he was at about 0:40 that it was coming out...  ;D
