Finally got round to doing the wishbones job to reduce the tendency to use all 3 lanes of the motorway whilst driving*

Straightforward job, until I came to the wishbone rear bolt.  Drivers side had the wrong bolt in it   and the pax side would not undo as it was very very overtightened...  air impact hammer wouldnt touch it and in the end it was push the extender bar with foot time.  Which got it off    

Needless to say I now want to replace the bolts/nuts ... anyone have the part number for them handy?

I dont know the part number but, if the wrong bolt was fitted on one side at it wasn't clamping the mounts very well then it could well be part of the cause of the wandering.

It was pretty tight so it should have been OK - but it was the wrong length and it didnt have the taper end.  I'd have left it as is probably, had I not had the problem of the overtightened other side.

Actually, the wishbone bushes didnt look too bad.  The ball joints were tight too, so Im hoping that I have the same result as someone else who said their old ones looked OK, but the new ones made a good difference.  We shall see...

Pete you are a star, thanks very much.  Vx dealer wasnt able to confirm which was which (believe it or not!) and its the vertical bolts Im after...

Great stuff. Can get them ordered now.

The wishbone bolts and nuts have flared heads to spread the pressure over a wider area....hence normal nuts and bolts dont cut it...

I dont suppose you have a rattling/knocking from the front subframe area?

If you do.....thats probably where the bolt is!

Whoever did this used the old GM nut, in conjunction with a random bolt which doesnt have the flared head.  Im going to leave getting the geometry check until Ive got the proper bolts on this... torqued at the correct settings which I think you said in another message was 120 Nm

Thats correct....and the front bolts should be left loose until the cars on the ground and then tighten as much as you can with a ratchet before jacking back up again and tightening to the correct torque.

Cheers for confirming the torque setting.  The method for setting at ride height is what I did, after discovering I couldnt get enough swing with the torque wrench whilst on the ground.  Wish I'd put a pit into the garage when it got built a while back...
