Post by: Andy A on 20 March 2021, 15:19:12
Hi,

Can someone tell me how to remove the Wing indicator lens?

Thanks

You remove the whole unit by inserting a thin blade at one end between it and the panel to release the plastic latch. Then the bulb holder twists out.

If you google for images of the lamp, you'll get the idea :y

There are two tabs on the rear; one a retaining tab, the other is a sprung 'release' tab that needs to be pressed on one side to release the lamp unit from  the wing.
Have look at this to get an idea.

I can see the the tabs. My Omega is a 2003 with the clear lens. Do I insert the blade from the front end of the car or rear?

Thnaks

Pretty sure I just pushed the lens backwards, towards the rear of the car, against the spring to release.

The 'squeezy' tab is towards the rear of the car. However, as the lens and unit is recessed into the moulding trim, I think you would be better removing the wheelarch liner to access it properly without risk of breaking the tabs.

Push it towards the 'springy' end and it should pretty much fall out.

Removing the arch liner is a bit of a risk as the studs the retainer nuts screw on to have a tendancy to rust and snap.

It's been a while since I removed one, (they're not exactly a wear item), but I think it actually clips into the trim rather than the panel itself  :-\

That's what I remember when I changed mine for clear ones. See, we do agree on something  ;D

 ;D I won't tell if you don't...

Refit them the other way around... The fixed tad goes in first, and then it snaps in.

Tried getting the N/S side out the other day and it cracked. Managed to find a pair, left and right on Ebay but the seller sent 2 O/S ones. Trying to sort it out at the moment but the seller hasn't replied.  :(

the lamp profile and the bulb insert slopes backwards. yes they will fit in each side but not correctly.

I had exactly the same problem when I got some a couple of years ago, ended up carefully cutting the lens off and sticking it round the other way. Same thing, seller ignored attempts to sort it out.

Hmmm :-\ I am surprised that GM bothered. Does the Vectra B use the same ones?

They are specific to the Omega in the Vauxhall range.

The online catalogue lists them as the same both sides but I know that when I fitted mine, the right hand side clipped in, the left side would not fit in the aperture where it clips in.

VX do list different production numbers as well so would need to check on the proper EPC disk

Why I still have them I've no idea but I came across the OE amber side repeaters from my Omega the other day. They are NOT handed  :y

I get that they're slightly contoured vertically for the shape of the trim, but should go in either side the right way up... The sprung tab and the other end are the same size, so should fit readily enough :y

It took eight pages to learn to read the chassis plate ::)

we also have people who can't deal with a thermostat mounting flange that's a couple of mm thinner......
