Hi,  EML light has appeared on my X20XEV engine.  
Paperclip test has shown 10, 3, 4, 10.  As far as I can find on the site this shows 0340 which I believe is the cam sensor.  
So where is it located and how do I change it?

Ps.  Cam belt needs doing would it be better to do the whole lot at once?  (I don't feel confident enough to to the cambelt on my own. :-/)

between the cam sprockets, plugs in just under black strip that covers plugs.

I think I'd probably go genuine, but see what others say

I changed my cam sensor and it made no difference to the fault code, I had the belt changed and the code went away, so maybe you could just get the belt and tentioner changed first

When my cam sensor went down i had permanent eml and 0340, i ordered a replacement of eBay and it did not work, i got 2 other from the same place and they did not work, Vauxhall wanted to sell me the modified sensor that needs some adaptation on the wiring connector to install.

Anyway, long story short, i sourced two from the breakers yard, one did not work but what i found the only working replacement i found that worked had the same 4 digit code stamped on the site, 4793 or something (that's not it but it was a long time ago) not a part number but some other number, worked fine ever since.....

The wires to it should be sticking out the top of the cam cover in the middle at the front of the engine.

You can try these if you dont trust the ebay one, i have used them before and are very helpfull and fast delivery too.

i had the same problem 2 time changed the camsensor
no different ...i learned those siemens sensor got spacial code .
u cant have them any where but vax got them
they even clean the code with out any computer if ur problem is just cam sensor

remember u have to change the clip it conect with sensor
conect them together carefully .work slowly and calm
it s cold. cable are cold if u damge the wire than u got a big problem

Humph how strange?
 
I took a look under the plastic strip that covers the spark plugs.  Disconnected the clip plug to see what I could see (nothing), and reconnected it.
Hey presto the lights goes out when I start the engine as normal.
  
How strange?

Now I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth however I doubt this problem has cured its self.  What’s the chance of a bad connection?

a very useful  cambelt dvd is available from the oof shop,it may help you have the confidence to do the job yourself,and save some money.

I had a cam sensor fault over a year ago.  Cured a list of fault codes which came with it by simply cleaning the metal part of the sensor and the part of the engine it leans against.  Never came back.

Got that one but it's for the V6 I have a 2lt 4 cylinder.  I'm waiting for the shop the sell the other DVD.

The plug to the sensor is visible from the top under the plastic spark plug cover.  It is possible to remove and inspect the plug from this position but of course not the sensor.

Who knows it may be the same,  I may have made a tighter contact on the plug.  Father in law says, "if it ain't broke don't fix it."
