...for a 1983 Kawasaki GPZ1100 A1. Mine is tattier, 32k miles but all original apart from a replacement 4-1 exhaust, pattern front brake discs and braided brake hoses. They are beginning to become a classic where they are the last of the big K air-cooled fours.

Where it is a non-runner, if it is the DFI then that will really hammer the value as a carb conversion will probably be required to get it running. :(

I owned a 1984 (B reg) GPZ 750 turbo. Pretty rare today.
That also came with DFI as opposed to carbs.

Prices of 80,s Jap bikes are rocketing. Prices for 70,s bikes have gone way out of many peoples budgets, so they are looking at 80,s stuff for something more affordable.
I don't think it will be affordable for long.
Buying a 90,s bike now could be a good long term investment. Urban Tiger Fireblades and some early R1,s are already commanding strong money, so I would guess that's the way the wind is going to blow.
10 years ago a 916 could be picked up for around £3k. Not much chance of getting one for that kind of money now, or ever again.

A lowish mileage 916SPS you are typically looking at £12k+ A banker I knew in the late 1990s bought one new for about £24k. All was fine until he went past an Artic at very high speed not realising until too late that there was a police car hidden by it for which he got a 3 month driving ban, so as punishment his wife made him sell the bike. :o :o :o

iirc if driven hard this was as quick as the 1100 but a bit lighter and handled a bit better, but lacked bottom end performance and slight turbo lag. It was by far the best of tubo bikes released at about the same time by Kawasaki, Suzuki and Honda. :y

My older brother rides a ZZR1100. A lot of bike & performance for their money. :y

They are, but also a big heavy cumbersome bike too. Depends what you prefer I suppose. Different tools for different jobs. If I wanted to tour Europe for a couple of months a ZZR1100 would be a superb tool.
For Sunday morning blasts, an R1 / Fireblade/ 916 or similar would be perfect.
Its all fantasy though, as Im an old fart now anyway. :)

My GPZ 750 Turbo was black and red originally, but blue by the time I owned it in around 1996.

He used to go out on a Sunday all day from Macclesfield to where ever like Wales or Scotland. Now he has retired I'm not sure, but he only used to use his car as a shopping load carrier, everywhere else, except in ice & snow, he uses the bike. :y
