That final admin fee. I refused to pay it. They said I wouldn't get my deeds then.  Okay, but it's all electronic, so keep hold of the copy you have. 3 months later they sent me a copy of my deeds. self-abusers.

Why do actors in Eastenders always say 'fings..... free.... nuffing' rather than  'things.....three.....and nothing'?

It's just an accent. As I said, it sounds normal to me whereas Brummies sound suicidally depressed, and Scouse makes the speaker sound idiotic. My sister's boyfriend is from near Glasgow, and if I can't see him I can't understand a word he's saying.

I'm pretty sure 'posh London types'  don't say 'fings' :)

Speaking of regional accents, apparently the scouse accent is 'the least trusted accent' in the UK....with the Devon accent being the most friendly.

.......and I thought everyone trusted scousers. ::)

I live on Miseryside and don't trust myself.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 09 January 2021, 22:40:41 »
Today I parked on the flat. One rear wheel on frozen mud, and the other on sheet ice.
The traction control does the tyres do not work in those circumstances.

FTFY :y

Thanks. You are correct.

At work we asked the Government (MOD) to postpone the project we have to finish and demonstrate in February.
We calculate we need 8 people at the demo 7 of whole will have to stay in hotels just West of the M25. For 3 nights.
We think the MOD will have 3 to 10 observers. From all over.
To actually get to that point, we have to get at least 6 people in a workshop to integrate all the stuff they have worked on remotely in cyloys.  We can not easily do it remotely.  The Engineering Director thinks it needs 15 days.  3 of those people can not commute daily.

We've asked the MOD. thier responce has been "please minimise the number of people you send, we can not delay.
There's nothing that couldn't be delayed 6 months in my humble oppinion.
Oh and I'm supposed to pull together risk assessments on this.

Rest assured North Korea won’t be taking a break from building their nuclear sub ( sadly for Biden). Ditto the Chinese and Russians wont be delaying any of their projects for pesky virus concerns.

Rest assured, I applied for a job building nuclear subs in October 2019. My security clearance came through in December, but I've told them I'm working for someone else now, but i could start in April. Which they were okay with.
Now they've sent me new facts saying it's inside IR35.  And there's no possibility of WFH (obvs), so unless I've had a vaccine by then (I'm in group 6 apparently) I feel it unlikely that the money will be worth the risks.

Current contract is about proof of concept, and whilst it i s important long term, waiting 6 months, wouldn't actually make much difference in the overall scheme of things.  If asked to.productionise the prototype, we could catch up. (Probably)

General Discussion Area / Re: Ikea ARRRRGGHHH!
« on: 06 January 2021, 22:19:10 »
In 1990, whilst living not far from the M5/M42 junction, South West Of Brum, we decided to buy an Ikea kitchen.
This was before the internet. Ikea being North about 40 mins drive on a Saturday. We worked out carefully every part we needed, and went around and filled up the car. And roof rack, but they didn't have the knobs we wanted. Oh well. We decide to fit the rest and go back.
Half way through fitting the work top I noticed an issue so had to go back and swap it. Whilst I was there I tried to get the knobs. Not in stock. Couldn't reserve them.either. And they couldn't say when they'd be in stock.
I passed the Junction on work trips occassionally, so over the next 3 weeks I popped in twice. Still no knobs.
Finally we went on a Saturday Morning with a screw driver, and in front of the only salesman, in the kitchen show area , we removed the knobs we wanted, and got him.to put them.in a bag, with a hand written price tag.
It wasn't the out of stock bit that screwed my mind, but the fact there was no way of reserving them.

Has it got any better with the internet?

About 4 years ago I was forced to go and buy a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 bedside drawer units from Warrington.  It just fitted in the omega. Took all oppsing day. Had to go to a separate warehouse to queue up for half the stuff.

The quality and ease of assembly are acceptable to me. I just hate the place and customer experience.

He has done lots of them over the years. An engineer and petrol head I used to know, met him and tried to have a conversation with him about how he does what he does. He claimed he just hacksawed through crankcases and winged it from there.  ::)

.....Yes. Pretty sure one of them was a 1250cc 5 cylinder 2 stroke Kawasaki. A 750 2 stroke triple with a couple of extra cylinders added.

It's 'probably' easier on a 2 stroke.  The crank on my RD350LC was a series of round bars and thick discs with holes in them. Pressed together.

There's plenty of land in the United Kingdom.
My parents just sold half thier garden on which they had planning for a single property.  If it had been the South East, and not Ynys Mon, the plot would have had 8 houses and not one.

General Car Chat / Re: oil change
« on: 23 December 2020, 18:37:24 »
Oil changes should be done every 20,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is sooner. Says so in my astra book.

This was to keep fleet happy, not the turbo's. As I tend to keep my cars for a while, but don't cover that many miles as we alternate vehicles, the time due for an oil change would always be way before the mileage.  :y  So, as you say, the 12 months would apply to me.

My understanding is that the if you have 1000 hire cars in your fleet, and don't have to service them in the year you own them, you save a opps l load of money.
If a manufacturer wants to sell you 1000 cars, they need to  cover the odd one or 2 that might fail because of lack of.of oil change. A couple of engines under warranty is alot less than the profit on 1000 cars (even with a discount)
Cynical ? Me ? Yeah

Delco/Delphi rings a bell somewhere

AV Delco was sold off as a separate company years ago and eventually became Delphi
