General Car Chat / Miggy Alternative
« on: 08 June 2016, 18:10:21 »

Depending on some potential new work, I may seriously consider a new "used" car.

My requirements: Estate. Auto. A Bit of poke. Big load area. OK for long trips to France etc. Reliable.

Took the MV6 to south of France last year. Went great and no problems. But it's beginning to look a bit tatty, minor scrapes etc. Radio CD not working properly, little things that add up to quite a lot.

Thinking (only thinking at this stage) about maybe a Volvo XC70. 8-10 years old with 100k or less. Quite a few around. Any thoughts ? Petrol or diesel ?

General Discussion Area / Dave Swarbrick
« on: 04 June 2016, 00:05:47 »

I hate these, "Oh somebody's kicked it" posts just 'cos someone's gone. But Dave swarbrick was really very influential in a quiet kind of way. He almost defined the sound of Fairport Convention and the various genres that followed. I'm a bit surprised that he was as old as he was. Or is that a sign that I'm older than I think I am   ???

He was probably the guy that took the violin from the classical orchestra to rock/folk

General Discussion Area / The NHS
« on: 03 June 2016, 03:09:58 »

These days evryone is quick to moan about the NHS, waiting times, treament etc etc. Almost daily there is some tale of woe about waiting times in A & E.

Yesterday I fell over carrying a ladder in the garden. I'm a clumsy oaf. Bled like a stuck pig. Mrs drove me to A & E. Hand cleaned and stiched up. Back home in just over an hour, including the drive to the hospital. I was pretty impressed. The things I do to get out of washing up !  ;)

Posting this at 3am as it hurts  >:(  But, well it would wouldn't it. I think I was very lucky, no tendons cut or anything.

M&S crowing in Wales about the fact that they are the "official" suit providers for Euro 2016 . . . . to England

Recently I made some comment about jobs that require a SQ (Stupidity Quotient). Whoever thought this up qualifies  :y

General Discussion Area / The "Leave" campaign
« on: 31 May 2016, 19:35:29 »

This evening there was a "Political Broadcast" for the Vote Out lot.

I'm not making any representations here for or against either "in" or "Out", but this advert was so incomprehensible that I would say that it probably convinced more people to vote "In". What is it with publicity people that they feel that being " creative" or whatever achieves some real purpose. Barmy   ???

General Discussion Area / My Quote of the week

I just loved this line

"You can't legislate against human stupidity," he said, adding: "If you go in swimming at 10 o'clock at night, you're going to get consumed."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-36376227

But in particular "You can't legislate against human stupidity," can be applied to so many things. It's something that sucessive governments have failed to see.

National Lottery, Lotto, or whatever you want to call it, was intended to provide money for "good" causes whilst offering the chance of winning some cash.

I now see that TV programmes are appearing "Sponsored by National Lottery" IE Britains Got Talent.

So, not only have they increased the ticket price from £1 up to £2 not so long ago . .

The increased the number of balls from 40 to 50 making the odds of winning even worse than they were before

They are now throwing cash at promoting themselves on TV, cash that should be used for the good causes  >:(

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . . . . . The plot is lost. Time for a change.

Who says you can't get a full size spare into an estate . . . . but just maybe not into the intended space.

Picked up from Joff this week  :y

BBC must focus on 'distinctive content'

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36259237

If this means the end of endless espisodes at peak time about the morons who live in a fictitious area of East London, then I'm all for it.

I've always felt supportive of Auntie, AND have not minded the license, but the last few years they seem to be churning out mindless crowd pleasers. For some reason they seem to think that they have to chase viewing ratings. Why ? They gain nothing from it. They don't have advertisors to keep happy. Let people who want carp watch the other channels.

I won't go on a rant about E Enders itself . . . . . . Tempting though    ::)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / MV6 Aerial Suggestions
« on: 08 May 2016, 11:12:15 »

The aerial on mt MV6 Esta is totally knackered, I don't mean just the screw-in mast, I mean the roof mount and the rubber grommet thing. Just all useless.

Proper Vx replacemements don't seem to be available any more. Any suggestions about a good easy to fit alternative ? This has to be quite vertical not angled backwards as otherwise it comes into contact with the spoiler at the top of the tailgate. Happy with anything that actually works and easy to fit. I'm not to good at DIY on cars.

Went along to Halfords just to see, and they had nothing.

General Discussion Area / Whats next . . . .
« on: 07 May 2016, 13:06:35 »

My MV6 has provided sterling service since I got it, all around the UK, last year down along the South coast of France and back. Still only 113,000.

Last week a noisy exhaust, so new from the cats back

While on the ramp, a comment that my rear tyres were illegal

While new tyres being fitted, noticed that rear brake pads almost down to the metal

Also, handbrake cable adjusted to maximum so needs replacing

Whats next ?      :(     :(

I've re-registered  ::) My MV6 needs some TLC.

Regrettably I may be letting it go sometime soon, so better here where it would be appreciated than elsewhere.
