Dash cluster
« on: 08 August 2022, 12:00:08 »

Hi everyone new member in Dublin.
I had intermittent electrical fault with the rev counter and speedometer not working. My Opel garage where I get it serviced could not resolve the problem.  I found a firm in Leicester called Autotronics who said it was a common fault and they replaced a microprocessor and said all ok.
My garage put the repaired cluster back in this morning  but two dials still not working properly. I have called Autotronics and they will get back to me after talking with engineer. My car was bought new in 2003 and I have maintained it very well. Any advice would be much appreciated as both myself  and my garage are at a loss on what to do next.

My speedo/rev counter do this too[the other instruments work as do all warning lights] if the issue turns out to be the ABS ecu are these repairable on a d.i.y. basis/need to be sent off for specialist repair/replaced with another unit? if it's a case of replace does it then need coding to the car?

i thoughtthat the abs ecu only affected the speedo but not the tacho ?
it sounds more like a failure on the instruments pcb. (after making sure the dash is fully pressed into its connector socket and the supply fuses are ok.but this sounds like fuses are ok as you have warning lights and working fuel and temp guages ?)
by this i mean the actual control pcb inside the cluster NOT the flexible membrane onthe back that the lights pop into.
my failure mode on mine was a loss of speedo, tacho and fuel, temp too.but a replacement pcb i have had only failed on speedo and tacho.
the pcb is a double layer affair with through connections. mine failed on a couple of these due to the suprisingly intense heat the cluster is subject to in its location.possibly causing swelling ? ?

a cluster (if cheap enough) from another engine size will still physically and electrically fit in .if just to prove the instruments at fault or something else on the car.
