2003 2.6 Elite Saloon
Ultra rare Black Sapphire  8)
215,400 miles  ;)
It's this car with these wheels on:
Refurbished Elite wheels with customised centre caps.  :y

I'll get some new pictures up as soon as I can this weekend, but it still looks like this except with the different wheels.
New Vredestein Quadtrac tyres v.good condition  :y. These are normally my winter set of wheels so only went on last year and I still have them on at the moment.
Recent work was a full brake service  :o. The fronts had been on it since I bought the car fist time round.
Custom built stainless exhaust, single tailpipe, sounds lovely.  8)

Honesty box:
Drivers heated seat - toast  :-\
Air con - toast.  :-\
Rust starting to re-appear in the usual places - on the rear wings above the arches and door shuts. ???
The Bose CD changer is starting to play up, it seems to ignore 1 & 3 for some reason now. >:(
Accumulated car park dings and motorway gravel rash starting to re-appear. >:(
As far as I can recall, everything else works.
I've been using it to commute into London most days since April last year, it drives beautifully still, and can still go like a stuck pig - but I dont drive it like that..honest  :y

This car is fairly well known on the forum, it has pretty much every bill since new, and has been owned twice by me it's that good.
PaulS has owned it inbetween my 2 sessions. :y
Lovingly polished and attended. 8)

I need to make room for my mid life crisis V8 unfortunately. :-*
I realise the mileage is high, but it genuinely doesn't show it and feels like it'd do another 100k. :y I genuinely do not have any worries about it mechanically. The last major item that needed doing was the brakes, they couldn't really wait any longer. So apart from other 'maintenance' items, I think we're good  :)

I'm after £475 o.v.n.o - it needs to go or it'll end up in bits.

(reg not included so it'll return to its original 03 plate)

Cheers
Ian.

Interesting TB, I've been contemplating this myself recently and I think I now have my final wish list. I have always loved Range Rovers and although not as practical as my Volvo XC90, it'll do very nicely thank you now the kids have grown up - early TDV8 or 4.4 Supercharged  :D
Then onto the 2nd one at a time of life when if you haven't already, a V8 saloon to replace the Omega when the time comes  :-[ (I had thought about the Volvo S80 V8 - but not as exclusive). I looked at a 55 plate Maserati Quattroporte this week - the search is over  :-*, I have to have one of these in my life - it was gorgeous and not as expensive to run as you might think  ???. OK fuel consumption is never going to be it's vote winner   :o - but who cares
Now it's just a question of timing and SWMBO to figure out  :-\

When this subject came up a few years ago I think somebody pointed out that the memory chips used in the CCR2006 have a design life of about 10 years so electronic Alzheimers is setting in now that the youngest units are 13 years old :(
Is this likely to be why my radio just wont auto tune anymore? I can't even get it to search and hold onto even one channel. Even trying to manually tune it won't pick up the next strongest frequency. It's as though it's now stuck with whatever frequency was stored on each button until it goes out of range  :-[
Also, the tape player seems to be playing about 1/2 an rpm slow - which is just enough to make it painful to listen to  :-X.
CD's are OK though  :D :D :y
So is it toast - or will a 'reset' knock some sense back into it?

Cheers
Ian.

TBH, the problems on the A34 aren't due to HGVs.  They are due to the piss poor quality of car drivers we have.

I suspect when the findings come out about these accidents, it'll be something like a car giving a quick flick of an indicator means he has right of way to pull out, irrespective of the amount of adverse affect it has on anyone else...    ...plus maybe the amount of undertaking due to nobody ever getting in (which the A34 is very bad at).
:y Agreed.
I have a full HGV licence (1&2), but never yet had to use it to earn a living. Taking lessons in 2013, and the tests, was probably the hardest thing I'd done since military training in another life  ::).
It changed me as a car driver for good . yes I've seen some pretty poor driving - but most are all too keen to pile blame on the truck driver who not only has to manage something they cant see half of - but try and predict what the totally ignorant captain of mere 1 ton tin capsule is going to attempt within 3 feet of them. Make cameras/black boxes compulsory in cars too and then lets look at the real stats  >:(
Don't even get me started on cyclists in London.
BTW - I do feel very sorry for the losses  Terbert. Basically someone f88ked up and people lost their lives. Too many people treat driving as a secondary responsibility when behind the wheel rather than giving it their undivided attention  :-[. The A34 bites you if you're not paying attention to what's happening around you 100% - lorry and car drivers alike unfortunately.........

OY03 *** Silver 2.6 CDX on the M1 Southbound between Leeds and Sheffield this afternoon.
Strangely enough, I saw an OY03 HYP - silver CDX on the M40 this morning 6:50 southbound around the Beaconsfield area. The guy passed me - but didn't glance over, so assume he's not an avid follower  ??? Mine normally gets a second look by everyone that passes it ::)

I drove one a few years ago around Donnington track on a Vauxhall VXR experience. Stonking in a straight line, be veeeerrry careful on corners (in the wet) - especially putting the power down, or it'll turn your corner into a straight line too  :D

General Car Chat / Re: Volvo S80 T6...
« on: 05 July 2016, 21:34:42 »
Driven a S80 V8 AWD - not a bad car, typical solid Volvo - better than the first generation S80s (up to 2006), and certainly more poke than the T6.  Certainly better than a Ford Focus  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

I'm informed this engine is fitted to the Noble sports car, and with the aid of turbochargers gives 650 BHP.

Should I believe this?

The same source tells me the engine is made by Yamaha.

Correct. the same V8 is in the XC90 V8 too - they are pretty bomb proof.

I also have an XC90 D5. I've done 240k miles in it from new - so if you have any questions let me know. The Tax bands changed circa 2006 - 2008ish so be careful to check which ones you look at. Volvo got caught out a bit - so the early ones like mine is about £295, (163 & 185 bhp), they then went up for a period of time until the managed to get the emissions back down under the 500 quid level.
AWD is a common weakness - not much else tbh. Improved on later ones and easy to check if it's OK or not.
The D5 is a strong engine. 2.5T petrol are rare, but also worth looking out for. Avoid the 2.9 T6 - gearbox issues are gauranteed. The 3.2 is strong, the V8  :D would be the one to have - but they are rare too.
I'm on this forum too (same name  ;) ) - do a search and you'll find plenty of info http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=37

You're right, I think the S80 would make a great successor to the Omega as a quality cheap motoring luxury express - plenty of engine choices.

Cheers
Ian. :y
I've driven the V8 S80 - same engine as the XC90 - luuurvelly - went like a stuck pig.
