1 more key prob

 overhaulliing ignition lock,.today i followed the instructions to the letter, laid each brass plungers out and made a note of the sequence. when i finished cleaning everything & i was satisfied when the key was inserted into the barrel it was OK. but the the key will not turn at all. any ideas why  :-/ :'(

If i'm not mistaken, the key does not turn in the barrel. The key turns the barrel.
Did you put the barrel back where it came from to try it?

Did you inspect the inside of the bit on the left in this pic, and remove any burrs that may have been created by failed attempts to turn the key?

i was toying with that idea, but then the stop pin could not be put in situ

sounds to me as though you have a/some tumbler(s) in wrong or wrong order.  :-/

with the key inserted there should be no brass sticking out past the cylinder it should look like the above photo, if brass is sticking out you have mixed up the tumblers  :y
