Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Where do they hide traffic master
« on: 28 December 2006, 16:34:19 »
I would like to remove my traffic master system and utilise the connections to the stereo (CCR 2006) for a bluetooth handsfree kit. I have had a look under the dash both sides having removed the under dash panels and can see no evidence  of the trafficmaster system  :(and would like any assistance before I go attacking the centre console.....car is a facelift 2001 2.2 cdx which annoyingly appears to be without phone prewiring :(!!
Thanks all
Rich

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Phone prewiring
« on: 27 December 2006, 19:46:24 »
Hi to everyone and I hope you all had a good Xmas so far!! ;D
My 2.2 cdx 2001 estate has a microphone built in to the centre of the front interior light so I imagined it would have the phone kit prewiring installed which all the relevant previous threads indicated should be taped to the back or top of the glove box behind the dash.  I have had a good feel around and cant find it.   Where does this prewired lead come from??Is it a seperate plug in the back of the radio(CCR 2006) or spliced into the loom??
Thanks
Rich

Hi All
I have had three codes pop up this week all at once on my 2001 2.2.  No change to running or performance just had the light on the dash 3 times in a week.

P0130
P0170
P1555

I am checking for intake leaks and wiring on the sensors mentioned by the codes.....except i dont know where to find the Heated oxygen Sensor (HO2S) which is mentioned in both P0130 and P0170.  Any one know where i can find it or have any other suggestions about what I may check.

Many thanks
Rich

Omega General Help / Wipers parking inthe wrongplace
« on: 29 May 2008, 09:12:51 »
Hi all
Yesterday my wipers suddenly decided to park in the wrong place

They sweep as normal and return to the bottom of the screen but then go up a bit as in the photo before stopping.  They both seem to be tight as normal, I could understand one coming loose but not both at the same time....any one got any ideas please

Omega General Help / Low beam field of vision fault
« on: 08 March 2008, 19:41:49 »
Hi all,
On my 2001 cdx 2.2 petrol estate I have "low beam fld/vision" on my dash display.  I am presuming this is a fault with my HID headlamp self levellers.....they do appear to be static and did move before today!
Any idea which fuse to check if any, and how do I find and check the sensors and motors.
Thanks

Omega General Help / Noise from cambelt area
« on: 04 April 2008, 20:33:12 »
Hi all
2.2 petrol auto with 80000miles.  Cambelt tensioner rollers and water pump changed 8000 miles/16 months ago from autovaux.

Did a 220 mile run last weekend and have since detected a "dry bearing sound from engine front.

Removed aux belt but noise still there.

Removed cambelt cover and pretty sure its its either tensioner, roller or water pump. Which of these is  the usual suspect?

Its there a check to tell if I'm right....strip and check for play??

Is ther any thing else it could be...I am suprised they could have failed so quickly.

Omega General Help / Code reader that really works
« on: 13 June 2007, 20:47:59 »
Hi all,
I have got one of the hit and miss, hungarian software, through the laptop com port code readers and like every one else can get it to read codes now and again when the software feels like it....but it wont read my g.box ecu.

My mate at work bought one of these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GS300-CAN-OBD2-OBD-RESET-scanner-Code-Reader-engine-2_W0QQitemZ220120983690QQihZ012QQcategoryZ30921QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

to read codes on his Mitsubishi..guess what it doesn't,    but it does work on my Omega and reads and resets both engine and gearbox ecu's.....no laptops, no mucking around just plug in and read the codes.  Wish I'd bought one of these they are in my opinion the one to go for if you want a cheap code reader / resetter

Omega General Help / AutoBox dropped into neutral
« on: 09 June 2007, 21:34:33 »
2001 CDX 2.2 Auto.

Had a strange occurance with my autobox the other day, driving along on the M6 at a steady 60 ish for about 10 miles when suddenly the autobox went in neutral all on its own with out me touching the gear stick.  The revs went up for a second before I realised something was up and lifted off the immediatly the box went into limp mode and drive was restored and the light with the spanner came on. Got off the M6 turned ignition off then started engine . Light had gone out and normal power was returned. Not happened before or since.

Read codes today and came up with

P1781 CAN data bus, ECM actual torque signal- Malfuntion detected
P0705  Transmission range (T/R) sensor/switch, PRNDL input-circuit malfunction
P0730  Incorrect gear ratio

Any ideas as to what caused this would be greatly appreciated.

Omega General Help / Is this my thermostat housing
« on: 29 January 2007, 20:00:00 »

Is this my thermostat housing or something else??  I may have to remove it to drill out the broken exhaust manifold stud (that U can just see is missing!!!) and I want to get the relevant gasket for that housing before I start.  This is the last "modification" carried out by the previous owner that is left to put right and I just know I'm in for some fun!! ;D

Omega General Help / 4 cyl owners beware....loom chafing
« on: 20 November 2006, 18:54:37 »
Evening all
Did cambelt kit and water pump today on my 2.2 petrol and on removing the plastic housing that guides the loom across the front of the engine ( right at the top of the cambelt cover),  i noticed the plastic had rubbed through the loom tape and through the insulation on one wire right where the loom exits the left hand end of the plastic guide and turns 90 degrees (see pic).  2 minutes with the dremel removed a bit of the plastic housing and there is now clearance all round the loo where it exits.  If this had rubbed right through some wires it would have been a pig to trace whatever faults it caused........might be worth checking for all you with a similar engine.

All the best
Rich

Omega General Help / Exhausting question
« on: 17 November 2006, 17:49:55 »
Well after much searching I have found The One.....a 2001 2.2 CDX estate and I am well impressed :D. At 71000 miles I have a full cambelt kit and water pump on the way from Autovaux and also have to replace one centre box and rear exhaust box.
The exhaust chappy suggested that I could replace the twin centre box 2.2 setup (2 seperate pipes and boxes running parrallel from cat to back box) with the 2 litre 16v setup that runs only one pipe and box and its rear box....this will save quite a few quid.  He says its quite a common conversion that has no detrement to vehicle performance.
Has anyone come across this before and what might your opinions be??
 Many thanks
Rich

Newbie Welcome Area / New member would like you opinions
« on: 21 October 2006, 19:43:06 »
Evening all
I have joined your excellent forum and have not actually bought an Omega.....yet.  After many happy years with a Carlton estate there seems only one logical replacment, yes an Omega estate.  I have tried to read up just about everything I can get my hands on and have more or less decided its got to be a late silver facelift 2.2 estate with as high a spec as I can find.  There is one on Ebay that almost fits the bill exactly but has a few too many miles on it ...this car will have to last me many years.    The thing I would like advice on is the question of leather or cloth upholstery.   I like the look of the leather but have read a review somewhere that questioned the quality of the leather seats......so I would welcome any comments as to how the leather ones hold up,  Iknow the velour ones in my Carlton still look magic after 14 years (and three kids!!!)

Many thanks

General Car Chat / What to use on a KA sump pan gasket
« on: 29 September 2009, 16:18:52 »
Hi All
I've got to change a KA sump pan and need to know what type of sealant to use (if any) on the new gasket and rubber seals.  The new gasket is genuine Ford part and is of ther cork type...there is also a rubber seal to go either end of the pan where it goes over the crank. The guy at Ford reckoned they all just go on dry.....but we all know about main dealer mechanics.....any help good advice would be great as I only want to do this once!!!
