Title: Crusty Crossmembers
Post by: Bobw on 29 July 2020, 23:07:13
Hi All,
I have a poorly 03 omega 3.2 estate sitting on my drive. Has been SORN for over a year now due to chronic rust in front & rear crossmembers plus associated steel components (Pretty much everything attached to them!)
I was wondering in any brave soul has managed to replace these items in the past? and are new  / OEM parts still available?
I suspect that prices make this sort of surgery / refurbishment fairly rare, but I should consider it before the car is turned into saucepans, which would be a shame as the rest of the car is OK.
Any help and advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Bob_W

If the 2 to 3mm thick crossmembers are crusty, you need to take a good look at the much thinner sheetmetal they're bolted too!

As for cleaning them up, I would use wire wheels on a 4.5" grinder and then paint them with 2k epoxy paint. Not that I would ever bother doing this :y
