Omega General Help / Heater Blower Fan Unit
« on: 12 May 2014, 19:57:45 »
Have traced the noise I have had for a while from dash area down to the heater fan blower unit. >:(

Can this be removed just by taking out the glovebox assembly or is it necessary to remove the airbag ,as looks like motor body will foul the straight section of dash that glove box and footwell trim fits against.

Just need some advise please :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / NCDC Lost its way
« on: 23 April 2014, 20:06:45 »
For the last few days the red/green disply in the r/h corner of the display screen has been Red,indicating the satnav isnt finding any satelites ?

The display map works although it gives my location as Mid Essex although I live in Kent and the map referrence coordinates are for Essex. It will let me plan a route but will start it as if I am leaving Mid Essex and the arrow on the map does move however it has no relation to any road I am on or going near.I have gone through the option menus but cannot find anything that seems incorrect.

How do I get the system back to a set position if possible as I assume without a satelite fix nothing can be done.Would disconnecting the main battery for hour or so and then refitting cause it to reboot ?

Omega General Help / Painting Door Mirror Covers
« on: 23 April 2014, 08:17:12 »
I have little to no experience of painting parts on cars so would appreciate some guidance.

Both door mirrors on my car are pretty shabby and would like them restored to former glory.

I have read the guide on removing the plastic covers if damaged, but would appreciate some advise on best way to deal with restoring the mirrors.

1 )..Is it wise to remove the entire mirror from the car and then dismantle to leave just the covers to be painted..or would this run the risk of damaging the new paint when refitting

2 ).. paint fully assembled on the car with adequate masking to avoid any dismantling/replacing once painted.

3 )..dismantle whilst on the car and paint just the covers .

4 )..Just take the car to body shop and have it done by them but pay a hefty price for the pleasure

Any advise appreciated and idea of costs involved if I go route 4 !

Omega General Help / Air Con Expansion Valve
« on: 17 April 2014, 08:48:22 »
Had new condenser/dryer fitted to climate sytem few weeks ago and my usual air con guy couldnt get the temp at the air vents lower than around 9 C

As system hasnt worked since I bought car and unsure how long before that,it was suggested that the Expansion Valve may be sticking and might free up with use.The entire system was checked for leaks and found to be sound so expansion valve was beleived to be problem.

For last few days I have been checking temperature at vents and it doesnt drop lower than around 9C even with car running at normal speed and set at Low with blowers full.

Expansion valve seems to cost around £45/£50 but curious to understand firstly where it is fitted in car and how complicated or simple is it to get at and replace ,so I have an idea of expected costs should we go down that path for solution as would like it working correctly

Omega General Help / Metal Sunroof Trim
« on: 10 April 2014, 22:25:47 »
Expect I am not alone here so would welcome others solutions to the flaky paintwork on the metal sunroof trim.

Can the trim be removed on its own to refurbish or is it a mask up/rub down/prime/paint ?

General Car Chat / Irmscher Wood Effect Steering Wheel
« on: 03 March 2014, 15:32:25 »
After letting my Old Elite go I decided to see what my retained Irmscher wood effect steering wheel looked like on the new Elite and suddenly realised that the original spec of pure black leather/wood didnt match the interior of the newer models. :-[

Did Irmscher make a revised colour leather wheel to compliment the new style leather found in the F/L Elites as mine seems to be more grey/black than the pure black of the older MFL models.

Assume I will now need to look on German Ebay for a matching wheel and look to move my original one on

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Small Section Of loom and plug
« on: 26 February 2014, 10:20:23 »
Constant issues with brake wear warning light, despite pads/discs being brand new so would like to resolve,as have traced fault to a corroded socket and damaged wiring.

I require the black circular socket that sits against the n/s front shock for the brake wear sensor plug and as musch of the wiring loom as can be cut before it goes into the wheel arch.

Also ideally the wear sensor to the brake pads(not worried if the ceramic part is broken) ,that way I can atleast cut and join the wires short term then have the correct intact socket for when I next replace front pads and can just plug new sensor wire in.

I like things working properly and warning display is annoying  :(

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Head Light Field Error
« on: 19 February 2014, 17:19:17 »
Whilst messing about earlier today though I would have a look at the annoying error code I get on ignition switch on of "Headlight Level error"

Code reader shows 3.4 volts to rear sensor but 0 volts present at front ..3.0 volts at both headlight level motors.

Does this seem to point conclusively to faulty level sensor on wishbone or wiring to sensor

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 3.2 Alternator Amp
« on: 17 February 2014, 13:51:11 »
Last night on way home dashboard lite up like blackpool and spanner came on ,however managed to get home.

Checked car this morning and started fine but within short time ABS/TC/Airbag light appeared on dash and the spanner also.Checked battery voltage and was showing hovering around 8.0 v..to 8.2 v so suspected battery or maybe alternator.

Gave battery a charge and brought back up to 12 volts so car started fine and no dash lights reappeared.Checked battery again with meter and puzzled to find only 10.5v..10.8v across terminals so thoughts are now down to alternator.

Looking on web unsure if 120amph or 140amph is required as just want to be for armed before I condemm alternator for replacement or would I just get away with changing the electric pack on the back of alternator as bearings etc seemed to be quite when I last checked  few months ago
