General Discussion Area / Are we out of lock down
« on: 18 April 2020, 18:58:51 »
Just my imagination but the "local world" seems to of either decided to go back to some form of normality or the population have said " break this I going back to before life "

Lots more cars on the road today...read our local Range and Wilko stores are going to be opening and all the local take aways seem to of re-opened.

Have I missed something or is this just a rebellion !!!.....Thought we had "atleast another 3 weeks of isolation"

Just looked on BBC website this morning and viewed the progress on this field hospital built in just 9 days.

Truly stunning achievement and when you look at the facilities each compartment has it is truly worldclass, and puts other countries to shame.Hope none of us will require its services but am certain if needed you would get the best possible care .

Very proud of what has been done and hope that it saves many lives in the coming weeks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Brake Light Bulb Check
« on: 10 January 2020, 14:38:45 »
Odd one this,any pointers  ?
Always brake light check comes on with ignition and goes out once brake pedal is pressed.
Today Im getting a brake bulb check come up every so often when I brake.
Checked both bulbs and 1 had failed ..great I thought and replaced it with another, but still getting the same icon appear.
Top brake light works but both on rear wings dont.
Bit puzzled as neither bulb is blown ..have checked fuse #2 and all sound there aswell

Omega General Help / Strange Traces Of Oil
« on: 04 December 2019, 15:45:47 »
Opened bonnet today to top up screen wash and give engine usual cursory look ..noticed what I can only describe as an oil leak but its showing around the bagpipe connections only on the passenger side 2/4/6 bank where the top curved pipe from the throttle bodies joins the metal separator all around the large jubilee clip.

Really fresh oil and a enough to require wiping away with a rag but after short drive today it has reappeared.

Breathers were cleaned less than 1k ago along with fresh oil change ...never ever had it before and why is it only the 2/4/6 bank ??

Any guidance as to cause as will take it al apart and thoroughly clean but not for a while as have a drive upto Lincoln in the morning to Christmas Market with swtsmbo

General Car Chat / A question of Temperature
« on: 24 November 2019, 15:15:55 »
Firstly I don't have a problem with this..well I hope not..but something that has bugged me for as long as I can remember so would appreciate the correct understanding of this.

After a mile or 2 from cold start Temperature gauge always sits at 85 degrees stable and rarely moves up or down even if I give engine a hard time except when air temperature is 20+ mid summer and pushing hard up steep inclines.Thermostat was replaced year /18 months ago more as a matter of fact and is working as it should. On idle you can feel sudden hot rush through top hose but never seem to be able to get main engine cooling fan to come on at idle again only in mid summer but from my understanding coolant is circulating and have no problems with heater.

My understanding is the thermostat has temperature band of 92 degrees which I imagine is when it is fully open but if the internal dash gauge never gets to the temperature (again excepting how in accurate dash gauges can be ) does that mean the thermostat is never fully open.

Somebody with a concise understanding and the willingness to spend couple of minutes on the keyboard explaining to me would be really appreciated.

Again I don't think I have an issue with temperature etc but would just like to know

General Car Chat / Quite Chuffed
« on: 18 November 2019, 22:12:18 »
MOT booked in today at 12.00 at my usual place ..been going there for years.

Omega passed with no advisories for the 8th straight year ...MOT tester said its a credit and a pleasure testing a car that's looked after,as he sees 4/5 year old cars that fail on many things...his only complaint is he never makes any money out of me !!

Heres to another year of hopefully trouble free mileage

Omega General Help / Thermostat Housing
« on: 12 September 2019, 16:35:53 »
Think I may have a similar  " Tunnie Leak " although after pressure testing and dye checking I have traced mine to a small leak under pressure from the stat housing to the block.

I replaced the thermostat about 6 months ago as original had become lazy and gauge was very slow to move..new thermostat has resolved this problem although have had a marginal leak since which can be seen around the housing when 12 psi is applied and coolant visible just below a/c compressor laying on the sump lip.Correct thickness body of stat was fitted with new O ring and correctly torqued and both bolts are still tight.

My belief is despite the block surface being thoroughly cleaned it may have slight pitting and the O ring isnt holding water tight.Question is ....is it better to just fit a new O ring and hope all is good this time or apply a sealer to stat housing to be sure. What is the best sealer for this and should it be applied inplace of the 0 ring or with the O ring aswell.

Many thanks

« on: 02 August 2019, 20:15:19 »
Im going to replace the arb bushes tomorrow in my continued search for the annoying noise Im getting from the front end as they are only £4 each.

Omega General Help / Front Drop Links
« on: 17 July 2019, 09:49:21 »
Have a noise coming from ns front drop link so intend replacing both sides along with ARB just to be sure all cured.

What is the recommended drop link source now as current set are Lemforders and have only lasted around 2 years.

Suspect ARB are original so is the extra cost of Poly Bushes worth it on these or stick with just std rubber

Advise appreciated
