i filled up 10 days ago at sainsburys e5 soon as i went down the road could smell fumes like bit petrolly had the smell till i topped up 50 quid at a jet garage smell disappearde but now car not firing as usual and the revs when idling go up and down like itll cut out no cut out yet but needs 2 or 3 times starting it ever since i had that lousy fuel from sainsburys.maybe caused problems with the mixture.im lost never had this prob before.

Have you checked fault codes ?
make sure  there are NO petrol leaks (tank connection can rust apparently )
and check there is no oil or water in the plug wells

Vauxhalls do overfuel when cold too

i checked all that dave no leaks or oil in plugs its just the crap fuel i got started the smell now smell gone and revs up and down never was before no lights on.thanx

This happened to my 3.2 when Asda had contaminated fuel some years back (they at least admitted it). It was one of only two times that my emission light came on. It was like it for about three days until I could get half a tank of V Power in it. It cleared on its own in my case so I can't help with a remedy I'm afraid.

I should have added to this, the contaminated fuel upsets the lambda reading. In my case it cleared itself after filling up with decent fuel and a couple of spankings to give it a clear out.

Since September, I've only filled the 3.2 Omegas with 99 Tesco Momentum or Esso Synergy Plus - none of this E10 crap....
They have never run as well. More responsive and better mpg. Worth the few extra pence to fill up, certainly in my book. The extra cost is worth it for a car that is running 110% and the noticeable difference in driving pleasure.

thanx johnny dog thats exactly the same as me only e5 from jet made a mistake going to sainsburys for e5 theres no other reason the car had these issues just crap petrol

More likely to be contamination in a forecourt tank than specifically due to E10.

Also, when did you last get the fuel filter changed? Not recently I will wager.

Some injector cleaner and a fresh filter would be prudent. And avoid that forecourt for a month.

Usually, in cases of fuel contamination on any particular garage forecourt, other cars will have been affected, and this circulates like wildfire on Faceache and the like.
Making a claim against the garage is difficult as a friend of mine found out in a similar situation - especially if time has elapsed since filling up at the 'suspect' garage. It involved fuel samples etc, although his car was so badly affected with water in the fuel that it conked out after only a few miles and had to be taken to a garage to be sorted, which was also necessary in his pursing the claim, whether through his insurance or otherwise. That was an extreme case of fuel contamination though....

Fortunately in an Omega, it doesn't take long to burn through enough to top off with proper fuel.

It won't help that many garages were run dry, so if you were unlucky enough to be one of the last few, then you'll have gotten more than your fair share of crud and water.

Generally speaking, there's a minimum fuel quality and cars are tuned to allow for a degree of variation. So it's pretty rare to get fuel dirty enough to notice.

Changing the filter helps mitigate any subsequent problems.

In British English, the past participle of the verb get is got. In American English, people say gotten. ** Note that have got is commonly used in both British and American English to speak about possession or necessity. have gotten is not correct here.

No one has yet pointed it out, but do you mean you filled up with E5?

If so I recommend you do not as E10 is suitable for our 3.2's, and mine has run perfectly on it since it first came on the market.
