If it were a biopic on Henry the eight, fair enough, but......

Absolutely right!

I was biting my lip to say something, and more, along those lines.  But it is clear the OOF has been taken over by old, white, straight, supremacy men folk who have failed to put the past national evils behind them, so what is the point!

It is just so disappointing in this enlightened age in the 21st century for some to still be considering discrimination against anyone different, and especially those not ‘white’. 

No reason why the Doctor can't be black if he/she is a good actor/actress but.....

This only works if the selection process includes people of both sexes and all  colours and creeds.

My guess is that white people were not included in the selection process.  The BBC love to show how diverse they are.

Biden pulled a similar stunt with the appointment of the latest supreme court judge. He should have appointed the most able (who could be any colour).....but instead he went down the identity politics route by insisting that the new judge must be a woman who must also be black.

Women only shortlists so beloved by Blair is another example where merit and ability become of secondary importance.

 

I don.t give a flying one who plays the good Dr, as i wouldn't watch whatever colour/creed they were. The point is as Opti says, a lot of very able people are being excluded from certain high profile jobs, just in order to satisfy a box ticking exercise. If this labels me a racist in certain peoples tinted eyes, tough shit.

If I close my eyes I can almost see the selection process in action. No doubt the 'inclusion and diversity' representative will be invited  and asked by hand wringing BBC staff how we can all make the world a better place.

Yes, everyone who is considered for any professional role must be assessed on merit.  What they can do for the business / job/ role, etc., MUST be the only consideration.  That means everyone, no matter what creed, colour, sexuality, gender identity should be considered and appointed on their ability.

This was not always the case that’s for sure back in the dark days before the relaxation of invisible demarcation lines in the 1970s / 1980s and beyond. That is why we all must never allow our society to go back to the days of “No Irish, No dogs, No blacks”.

The part I dislike about all this nonsense is that it all stems from that drug dealing piece of shit whose immortal words " I can't breathe" was the start of all this , couldn't give a toss what colour they are but stop pushing them forward at every opportunity as if we owe them some kind of apology, you break the law that's the chance you take, as for being racist I'm mixed race & can't abide what is happening it's simply pushing the tolerance back of people by 30 years or more.

Yes, I must agree, that was most unfortunate.  It was an excuse to attack racism and the US police in one go.  The years old “campaigne” against racism was hijacked, and may well have reversed the aims of it. But I know a number of those subjected to the type of racism that I do not get as a white woman, and that has still got to change so we can live together, judging others by their abilities, not their ethnic origins.

No boyo, I would never not include the Welsh as I spent many happy years on business going around the lovely valley’s

Mind you, I remember the discriminatory comments made between those from the valley’s and townies

It was very funny when one of my Merthyr Tydfil store managers, who was a townie, was talked about in Welsh in a derogatory way by two women from the town who mistakenly assumed he did not speak the language.  They were shocked when, in perfect Welsh, he told them what he thought of them!

I'd agree with this, except it doesn't actually work that way in the real world. 14% of the UK population is non-white, and 70 odd million people is enough to make a statistically relevant sample. So taking the FTSE 100 for example, there *ought* to be 14% non-white people in top jobs (unless you want to argue that white people are smarter/better able to lead than non white, which is racism at its core). In practice there are only 3.5%.

Just looking at the numbers it's pretty clear that the tables have been tilted for a long time and no amount of talking about appointments being made on merit has changed that. Look across many other fields, the media included and racism is pretty clearly alive and well in the UK, along with many other places the numbers bear it out.

The truth is that 'positive discrimination ' is just a tiny tiny hint of what it might be like with the shoe on the other foot and mostly white, mostly men of mostly a certain age get their ar$e in their hands about it.
