Fuel bill
« on: 11 July 2022, 13:01:08 »

Just been have a mental heart attack add up of what my fuel bills could look like when my fix runs out next May. This is very 'back of a fag packet, but I'll bet it's not that far off. When I first fixed, about 15 months ago, the 'average fuel bill was £1200, according to the bbc. Mine was/is £1800, so fair to assume I'm paying average+50%. Average is due to be around £3200 in January according to forecasts, which will make mine around £4800.  :(
I'm sure I can do small things to mitigate that amount, but not by a huge amount.

How did we all manage without central heating when we were children?

Put on a jumper.!

Yes, ice on the inside of windows, mum getting up at 6 o'clock to get the coal fire going, only means of heating in the house. We didn't have a back boiler, so it was a tin bath filled from the gas water heater over the kitchen sink. Happy days  ;D

Obviously not for me. I'll have to make do with the £400 fuel bill rebate and the £300 winter fuel payment.

The problem in those days was the musty smell of any clothes hung in a wardrobe upstairs.

We have no gas where we live so Electric and oil
Had to fill the tank and needed 2500 litres
Oil companies would only sell 2300 as there is a need to obtain, at cost, a special certificate to order over 2300 litres
So, bought when the price was"low" at £1.00.5 per litre
Last year paid 32p a litre
And, our leccy bill has risen by 65%
The joys of living rural

Bet an old merc would run on that oil. In that scenario, £1 a litre is half price.

My deal ends at the end of August , because I'm in credit my direct debit has reduced from £115 per month to £67 per month, I'm simply going to cancel my direct debit & pay the bill when it's due. If I lock into another deal with Scottish Power & then decide to opt out for a cheaper deal elsewhere there is a £150 exit fee , robbing bastards can poke their deals up their arse

Mine ends next May with Octopus, the one good thing about them is there are never any exit fees. I'm £489 in credit right now, paying £160 a month, and the balance will get higher during the summer months. When the £400 is added after October, that will give me a small cushion when my fix ends.

A bit of lettuce can be quite tasty, in a bun, with a lump of beef and cheese.

One of my 5 a day.
