The Windsor Framework
« on: 28 February 2023, 12:54:23 »

Rishi Sunak has apparently pulled off a masterstroke with his new deal with the EU over Northern Ireland.  :y  Or has he?  :-\

It will be interesting to see what emerges as the small print is explored and analysed, but one thing I'm certain of, despite the EU fans claiming that the EU has shown flexibility and cooperation, they never give out for nowt and I suspect that even though it's claimed that Rishi has secured huge concessions, it will turn out that he has conceded much to the EU.  :-X

For example it's clear that EU law and thus the ECJ will still apply.  All eyes on the DUP!  ::)  :)

Got to say, I lost all interest in this long ago. Brexit should mean brexit, and that means a border between us and them.

There isn't a country on the planet that would voluntarily allow a foreign government to apply it's laws and courts to a part of it's territory.  ::)

Apert from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  :-X

Plenty of toms in tins though which Mrs Opti turns into a delicious soup. :y

Rishi thinks he has got a great deal, because this is just another one of the many things he is utterly clueless about.
The UK are (unfortunately) happy to have no border anywhere . The EU says there has to be one to protect their internal market.
So tell the EU to do whatever they want to do and any repercussions will be on their heads. Seemples.
Personally, I would have a 30 foot high electric fence with one way turnstiles every half a mile.
You can go from North to South, but you cant go from South to North.  :)

I hope the DUP dig their heels in, and the conservatives in this supposed Conservative Govt. give them their support.

He talks a lot of sense. The day Boris announced the Northern Ireland protocol, I said he had torn up the Good Friday agreement and threw it in the bin. It was immediately rendered null and void.
I have never been a fan of the agreement (another of B. Liars con tricks) but what Boris did with it was always going to come back and bite him / the UK Government on the arse.
It will get voted through Parliament because Starmer announced that Labour would vote for it, before they even knew what was in it. In fact, before it was even finalised !
It will still bite them on the arse though. Trust me.

I wonder if something shady has happened with Steve Baker as he's gone from being the Hard Man of Brexit to one of the main EU appeasers.  :-\

He was on Peston a couple of weeks ago talking up the Windsor Framework and then went on to talk about his mental health issues and where he's had some kind of breakdown.  :(

What have they got on him?  ???

Industrial fertiliser (as the stuff from Wilkos had an antioxidant in it so only went off like a rocket and lacked the 'boom'), icing sugar and a bit of meths, mix appropriate proportions to a thick paste, slop onto item you wish to educate, cable tie a crushed coke can (or other beverage container e.g. Trent bitter) over the top, insert a cut elastic band, light, and scarper like hell

Sounds like we all had the misspent youth. Boys will be boys.

We used to "play" up in Wendover Woods, which overlooks RAF Halton.  And we knew exactly where the jurisdiction of the military police ended ;D

We spent a lot of time in Cobham Woods with cars, motorbikes, guns, and on one memorable occasion, dynamite when we should have been revising for A-levels. Knackered mk1 Escorts are surprisingly effective on muddy tracks when you're 18 :y  The High Speed Rail Link cuts through there now, so it's no longer possible to get cars anywhere near the Darnley Mausoleum.

The cinder tracks from Cliffe Fort towards Allhallows were another haunt(we usually went there at night), if all the gates were open. You can get a 1300 automatic Escort very sideways on a wide cinder track....
