It's still a no ;)

Not a fan of Japanesey cars. Too much grey plastic and you can't identify the interior of one to the next without looking at the V5...

That's not a real problem for those who treat cars as white goods. Which is me, most of the time.

Evos and Subarus are cars that I might briefly enjoy if I was thirty years younger, but everyone I've tried I've been glad to give back quickly and not have to pay for. M3s and the rortier Mercs and Audis are much the same.

An Audi S3 saloon would fall into that category, but the rock hard ride and 110% everywhere would soon get annoying (it being an Audi notwithstanding).

I would also put my old Xr4x4 in the same box. Hugely entertaining right up to the point you kill yourself in it... :D

And not something that you can really commute in with today's traffic  :-\

Why not? An 1100 Escort would be perfectly adequate, unless your commute is a couple of hours on the motorway. My commutes over the last twenty years would not have been any worse in an Austin 7.

The problem with modern cars is that they have so much power and grip that when it does let go, you're just a passenger for a very short and expensive ride. And then you get to spend half an hour listening to the owners of the fence, lawns and pond whinge at you while you wait for the Fire Service to come and cut you out of the wreckage. Try that in a modern performance car and you probably won't be conscious after the crash.

I can thoroughly recommend the Zafira A 2.0 DTi for transporting old people  :)
as long as I don't have to drive it
LOL, I was just saying on another forum that clapped out Zafira's are ideal for lugging old'uns about ;D

When I was young and stupid, that Sierra used to regularly do my 26 mile commute in 23 minutes.

Fortunately, I wasn't so stupid as to realise that wasn't a good thing. It's replacement was a 2 litre Mk3 Granada.

Any car is a compromise of all the things that you need it to do. Larger cars are less compromised in more aspects than smaller ones, although I will concede that the two cars I have owned that were genuine fun to whizz around in were a 1.3 Polo and a 1.4 106. But neither would meet my current requirements.

That was my realisation that my beloved Silver Bullet really had to go, after I did a 140 mile trip on the A12/A14/A43 in Friday late afternoon/early evening rush hour in 2 hours....   ....including stopping for LPG.

The best time I ever managed was 45 miles in 36 minutes mind I did have a Police escort , we were transporting a premature baby unit & mother  the old CF Bedford was smoking when we arrived.

Not bad going :D

The real difference is doing that because you had to not because you could.  ;)
