Before belt removal you need to set the crank so the the pistons are all half way up the bores to avoid any valve interference
Only one of the cam shafts needs to come out from memory, I think the head bolts on one side are accessible with the cam in situ
You say you ***only*** broke two studs, ensure the manifold mating surface is adequately cleaned as well as the manifold, only use a multi layer gasket, and make sued ALL studs are torqued and holding correctly. You will need to drill out the broken studs if they won't wind out and re thread the holes
If you don't you're in for a nasty blow, if not straight after rebuild, in the near future...
How do I know or set the crank so the Pistons are half way up?

« on: 14 March 2015, 09:39:59 »Both cams needc to come out to get to head bolts. I set timing marks on cams,locked them,marked bottom pulley with white paint so its easy to check thats in correct position,removed belt and then slowly loosened of the cams to remove them.
sorry, so am I setting it at TDC then marking them.

Now am not a mechanic and really have no idea how to do this but having 2 gasket failures in the past I cannot afford to pay garage prices. I have managed to loosen the manifold only breaking 2 studs. Have removed cam cover, and loosened cams. today to remove timing belt, should it be at TDC before removal or just locked with locking tool. any difficulties on the other side I.e. Removal of electric trunking etc.

How did you get on with your mirrors? just picked up a 2.2cd for parts and its in champagne paint code Z489 if its any good. Drivers side perfect, passenger has had a replacement side mirror stuck on top and has a few scratches on back. Get back to me if interested. car going to breakers soon.

Smoke or steam when sitting at lights. Have not noticed any smell from header tank but was foamy. Feel it chugging also on idle

when changing the HBV on 2.2cd I removed the scuttle, I noticed that one of the hoses was burst anyway ordered part from Vauxhall so left scuttle off. had a bit of an emergency that evening and had to use the car for a short distance, anyway did it not start to rain, after about 5 mile car starts rattling and EML came on. Fault code p0303 misfire in 3. Have changed plugs still code appears, put in another coil although not new and code still appears. reason for changing HBV was no hot air in the cabin, have some white smoke from exhaust. Is my head gasket blown or is there something I've missed that could have got wet I.e.

Noticed that there is a hole in mine. looking for the small S shape hose, part No GM 90 466 235 if anyone has one lying around. Cheers in advance.
