Very nice car that. Huge boot. Impressive load options. Back seats up, there's a cover blind that opens vertically with the auto tail gate. But, unhook the load cover blind so it retracts, reveals two levers on the sides. Pull these and both rear seats drop flat, actuated from the tail gate. No need to walk round and open the passenger doors to drop the seats like omega, oh no. Although there are additional buttons there if needed.
 Shopping bag hooks pop out the sidea of the load area too. Plus, with seats folded flat, there's a bulk head that is removable from behind the rear seats, that locks in place into the same hooks, do the net can be hooked up to the roof to stop stuff hitting the driver in the back of the head. Simple, but clever. :y

Head unit plays video DVD. Has tmc. Nav drops audio over any audio source without muting. Its responsive and audio commands are VERY RESPONSIVE :o control dial by arm rest is perfectly positioned, and easy to use.

Loads of head room. Comfy seats, which is an improvement on any older Merc I ever sat in.


...oh, and it bips its horn like herby when the fob buttons are pressed. Lock bips once. Unlock bips three times.....   

....oh dear. ;D


(It's quite endearing actually. Although not at 5am ::) )

MotherT's Merc has the same command system, it's very good. I like the parking sensor blips in the dash and roof too, when looking back.

Spare wheel well is enormous too. Good for gassing a petrol version.

My CLS 500 came with COMAND and not COMMAND. :P :P :P ;D ;D

Mr Al's car is certainly impressive. :y

The 5.0 V8 works out cheaper year for year than a Monaro, Mr Tunnie. If you can afford the petrol they are well worth a look. Check out the airmatic suspension though because the 'dumber' amongst us have already been caught out :'(.

I believe that airmatic was standard on the CLS 500 but an option on the CLS 320 'soot chucker'. When working as it should the suspension was fine, but in my opinion no better than a conventional set up. The CLS range certainly looks the part though and in V8 forum is seriously rapid. For reference, my March 2006 CLS 500 (with private plate and full SH) sold for just £6350.

Only 93,000 miles, so the engine was still a little tight. ::) :)

On a long run 26-27 MPG was possible because of the long gearing.......36 MPH/1000 RPM.

Goes to show how crap the Omega is on fuel really. Same MPG from a 5.0V8 compared to a 3.2  ::)

Never had anymore then 26 mpg when I ran mine on petrol  :(
Makes me wonder about it tbh
Best i've ever seen on a lpg run is 24  :'(

Best i've ever seen on a lpg run is 24  :'(
3.2 LPG Auto Estate, 14 to 18 mpg in and out of London, best Ive done is a very boring journey to Leeds and back driving like Miss Daisy, managed to hit 31 mpg, but soon went down when I got bored with it all.

My 3.2 Manual Estate will do 25 mpg all day long around London and up to 35 mpg on a run with petrol in it, working out the £ for £ for each one and LPG and Petrol starts to get to a 'not much in it' syndrome.

Still tempted to convert the 3.2 Manual to LPG and try a 3.45 Diff in there.  :-\

Long run, modest speed, with a feather like right foot, I really struggle to get 31mpg  ???

Should add that most E classes now are diesel, so if you're looking to lpg a petrol one, then your choice is limited :-\ most petrol ones being the E63 ::)

Best be saving those pennies...

Memory seats are about all that is missing, but as I'm the only driver, it's really not a deal breaker :y

It certainly cuts the mustard, and is far more comfortable and capacious than any Insignia could ever dream to be.
As for the Omega, that is still a very capable car, and difficult to beat for most peoples needs. The differences compared to the E class are simply generational... the design is 2009 rather than 1993 after all :y

Filtered piss (literally) which helps with emissions :y

Most trucks/vans use it... sold by every petrol station, but is a service item on the 350cdi, which suggests a level of inaccessibility  ::)

Euro 5 standard requires it, some Euro 4 also need it.

Its added at about 5% of the diesel consumption, cant see it beingdetectable at MOT time though.

It can drop CO2 levels so hence reduces tax banding.....I note that some of the 'Blue Motion' Vadge units need it now to.....
