I put up a new fence at a rental property a couple of years ago and painted it with used Genuine GM 10W40.  I was there a few weeks ago and noticed that the water was still beading on the wood, so it'll last for years.  :y

......and presumably it is more environmentally friendly than tipping it down the drain  of your neighbour. :)

Presumably.... if you go in for that sort of behaviour in Lincolnsausageshire.  :)

I doubt the greenie eco warrior types would see painting your fence with old engine oil as an environmentally friendly act.  :)

Why did they ban creosote anyway?  ???

I seem to remember it was on environmental or health grounds?  Is it carcinogenic?  :-\

It was banned around the same time as hundreds of tanning salons opened up!  ;D

I've only used a fence sprayer once as an alternative to painting with a brush. We ended up with a lovely Golden Chestnut fence .......... and flower border .... and grass.  ::)  The overspray has to go somewhere.   :D
Oh, and to make matters worse, the fence coat kept clogging the nozzle on the sprayer, although I guess they've improved a lot since I tried.  :)

Trouble now is they make the ronseal, etc., thin enough to be used in a sprayer, meaning it's like water and is difficult to load your brush with enough to cover any more than 6 square inches.

I've got about 25 panels to paint.

The neighbours have done their side with a horrible diarrhea coloured Cuprinol paint which is about three times as expensive as the Ronseal I use on the other fences and has washed off quicker as well! ::)

I might use the dark oak Ronseal and let plenty drip through to their side as they caused me a lot of aggro a few years ago over this fence!  >:(  ;D
