Front wheel bearing.
« on: 12 November 2012, 23:52:22 »

Just got in from doing a mercy dash in the Omega. Quick round trip to Cheltenham from Southampton. Problem is my slightly noisy front wheel bearing is now doing a very good impression of bean can full of stones  :(  So no big shakes I've done bearings before I even have a hybollick press but what I can't seem to find is just a bearing on it's own for the front. They all come with the hub and the best price I have so far is 53 quid to my door. Surely you can buy just the bearing for the front. If so does anybody have the bearing number? I can go to Solent bearings then and probably pick it up for 27 pence and two old coke bottle lids and it will come in lovely pink box smelling of Lavender  :P :P

The baring and the hub are one. There is no seperate baring.

...no "they" didn't believe me either. It's all one piece. Trust me.

Oe supplier is fag. Allgerman do them. Comes with nut and the baring cap.

This is a bit strange. I've found just the bearing advertised for the front yet like you say it looks like all one piece with the hub

There's a thread on here somewhere. They had me cutting lumps out with an angle grinder just to prove the point.

The outer races are machined into the inner wall of the hub. The hub is the baring, the baring is the hub. All one bit. No seperate baring.

Cheers fella. It seems GSF have some for 21 quid a side. However the picture is showing just a bearing. Wonder if it's just a generic piccy?

DO NOT fit cheap ones .. they only last 500 miles .. or did in my case. After mucho faffing and 3 changes I went for genuine in the end .. wish I'd done it first time I'd have saved much money and even more time ... :(

As Entwood has said, bite the bullet & buy one from Vauxhall, it'll save you the agro of replacing it at a later date. As well as Entwood's failing in French France, there have been various reports of pattern wheel bearings failing sooner rather than later.  :y
