Central locking started playing up today. The fob opens all doors apart from drivers door >:( Has anybody got any ideas where to start :question

Checking the drivers door :-)
I had a plug pull/fall out of the lock mechanism on an Carlton a few years ago.

Just had door panel off and connections are fine :question
baffled now can anybody help :(

Most likely the motor is worn out, you can try spraying with WD-40 which may help but it's probably best replacing it with a known good one. There's a how-to in the maintenance guides section.
If you like you could try checking the voltages to the motor with a meter, depends on whether you have a meter and any experience with electrics. Nothing complex really.

My '98 Elite had the same problem, this got it sorted. Take off the door card, peel back the plastic from the lock edge of the door, you can see the vertical steel contector at the edge of the door which goes into a ribbed rubber cover on top of the soleniod, pull the cover off and use plenty of WD40, replace rubber cover. Don't switch the ignition on to test until the plastic is well suck back. I found the central locking on that door became better with use.

Yep symptoms point to door solenoid, have a read of this:

I changed the door lock myself on my Dads facelift, very easy. I got the replacement motor from the scrappy too.
I have a door lock motor here that works, if you want it.

Did you keep the old motor? if you dismantle it and check the internal microswitches with a testmeter you may just find it is ten bob switch failure.
It was on mine anyway.
