Focus C-Max
« on: 27 September 2013, 23:41:36 »

My mate's car search continues...  ::)

He's going to test drive a Focus C-Max 2 ltr tdi ghia tomorrow, which is a 2004, had 4 owners and has 72,000 mile.  This seems low to me given the 4 owners and it's age, but he's had a look and says it's in very good condition....

Anyway just wondering what to look for and any experiences? TIA!!  :y

Bit of a step up for a fellow caveman, even if it is a Ford. ;D

Now a Zafira ...::)

Given the state of his Passat anything is a step up to be honest!!  ::)  and he's also getting heaps from his Mrs as she's sick of riding round in a banger!!  ;D

Suggest that he tells her that he will gladly parade her around in a new car provided she pays for it...

What he doesn't spend on a car can be better spent down paying the mortgage/credit cards/overdraft*

Once that sinks in she might mellow a bit :-\

Cant remember if the 2004 had the older Inlet Flaps on the Inlet Manifold, if it does they tend to break up and get eaten by the Valves and Pistons. if its the newer DBW probably wont have them.

They can also suffer from uneven idle ranging from stalling or high revving for a few seconds at traffic lights, normally down to the ECU relearning due to a wobbly sensor somewhere. Check the Idle / Revs at complete full lock of the steering to see if the revs play up. Other then that its a Ford so who knows.

Well he went to see it and really liked it, but the bloke wouldn't shift from his asking price of £3000 and wouldn't take the Passat in P/X (Can't say I blame him really!  ;D)   By the sounds of it my mate was wavering, but then the bloke said he wanted an extra £100 to fill up the 'Diesel additive', so my mate went "Nah" and walked!  :y

What's that about then?  ???  Adblue? DPF?  :-\

He phoned me again later on and said he was looking at a Fiat Stilo!  ;D

Yes that's the sort of thing I'd do if a buyer is too pushy on knocking down the price.

Still, alls well that ends well. :)
