My comp started the install (at least I clicked on something) A window came up with a thing going round and round, with 'Working on it' underneath. Been going for over 2 hours now. Is this right !!!!!!!
What will happen if I turn the computer off, as I am staying in Brackley for the week from today :(

Is that after the main install, ie, the background is constantly changing colour?  If so, should be safe to restart it.

If its at the "clock" bit, nah, it'll be toast

When windows started a box appeared saying 10 was ready to update... first box came up with about three choices, one of which said install. I clicked... that changed to a rectangular window which is plain blue one side, with a window on the other side. In the blue side, is a circle of dots that keep going round and round, sometimes making a circle, sometimes only a semi circle. Under these dots it just says Working on it. Been going round for three hours now. And in the white band at the bottom of the blue rectangle it just says Microsoft

Opps, just cocked up my primary laptop, forgot to upgrade before doing a burn and build.

*sigh*, time to dig out the Win7 disks and redo it all again :(

I personally wouldn't recommend Win10 yet on your primary machines. Give it a few weeks, let others suffer the pain.

I'm only doing it as if I don't put it on one of my primary machines, I'll never end up using it  :-[.

With Win8 and later, everything is dots going around, hence that's not descriptive ;)

If it hasn't done the first "SAFE" reboot, you should be OK to pull the plug on it, as it should automatically revert as a failed upgrade.  However, there is always the chance it won't.

Obviously, you took a full backup of data and licence key before attempting this? Of course you did.

No NX?  Jeez, how old are they!

You may get away with 32bit version (suitable for up to 3Gb RAM (actually preferred for <4Gb RAM)), as this has less CPU restrictions.

This drive is expendable...so I think I will pull the plug. When I reboot, if this drive does not boot, I'll boot onto the other.....and as you say, matey, dig out my bootable flash drive :y
