if you want a disk just search for the windows 10 media creation tool :y
That gets you a clean install, or you can grab win10 from a beta trial, which is the correct way of going, but as far as I know any free win10 only gives you 12 months free licence, after which you pay for it. The win7 and 8.1 auto upgrades are win10 licence for the life of the machine.

Unless things have changed  :-\

Just finshed updating to windows 10, worked like a treat..............for now  ::)
Whar was you on before 7 or 8.1, has it giving you a roll back choice?

The bit I'm interested in, is whether the on air update, runs as an upgrade, or a complete re install, ie, does it get rid of all your previous Win rubbish, or its all that still left behind.

It's just an upgrade, about 3.5Gb, once you've upgraded though I don't suppose there's anything to stop you getting a full version on line and then doing a clean install.

I don't have much rubbish to leave behind cos I did a clean install a couple of weeks ago :-)

If you upgrade within a year, Windows 10 is free on that machine (only) for life.

Got a couple running 10240 from trial. Not done any of my "main" machines yet.

ok, thanks, sounds like its a complete install then, as a fresh win10 install pack is also about 3.5gb.

So to clarify then, a fresh install of win10 or a free over air upgrade are both free for life on that machine. :y

I was under the impression only the upgrades were. :-\

They must have slimed it down a bit because Windows 7 was about 6Gb IIRC

So, did the upgrade, froze half way through, waited, waited........ got bored........  did a re boot, .. now boots up win7 quickly then flashes Blue Screen of Death briefly and reboots itself to the same deal every time.

FFS, got all my files backed so no real issues, just a bloody pita to have to do a rebuild now.  >:( >:( >:(.

Based on that I would say wait a week or two before upgrading, obviously still buggy. ::)

Sounds like you rebooted before the installation was complete.
The Three hours in and I'm only on about 75% on one and about 60% on the other, looks like a slow process  :-\

Same.  Probably just over 50 minutes from start to finish, and I selected Customise Options instead of Express when it first booted.

Some people must still be using 286's  ;D

I'm doing mine via the media creation tool due to give failures so it's slightly different, nearly five hours and the laptop its nearly done, the desktop it's still under 80%  :-\

Supposedly 100mbps download speed although I think it's more to do with the servers as I downloaded a file from a host and it was done in minutes.
