Her new car needs pig piss to save the planet. Seems a simple enough system and I have ordered 5lts and a filling hose from ECP. Any tips or do's/dont's. How often should I need to top it up and how much will it use?
Warnings may flash up in the car, but she'll just dismiss them and probably not mention them to me.

2 things on the pissy side of things.

1. I believe some cars wont allow you to proceed / enter limp mode if they run out completely. So maybe try to get her to not ignore the warnings. The disco would give a mileage countdown.

2. I was told that the piss 'goes off' so only buy when you need it and don't bother keeping part containers. Just buy it in a volume that suits your vehicle.

You/Wife should get a dash pop up warning to say you have 1500 miles left before it won’t start. From data, the Grandland X has an Adblue tank capacity of 17 litres, so when the message pops up just bung 10 litres in it and forget about it until the next message.  :y  How often this is depends on her style of driving so not necessarily specific mileage.

As I have a water meter and I'm tight, I take the If it's yellow let it mellow approach, and I can confirm that my piss goes off quite quickly!  :o  ;D

Derv cars didn't need pig piss back in the day, so why do they need it now?

A 2017 XJ 3.0D (300 BHP jobbie) I had as a loan car also had a piss tank.....in the boot if I remember correctly.

Most cars will not restart once the adblue is empty,so beware and don't ignore the countdown warnings

Because its needed to reduce the NOx in the exhuast in order to satisfy emissions.

It should be all cars which confirm to the later emissions regs as the regs actually state that a start inhibit has to be applied

Adblue has some strict storage requirements, so be wary leaving in the garage/shed in the winter. Nor does it like direct sunlight. And it has a short shelf life, so avoid buying it from garages that have it out the front.

The Redex stuff everywhere sells comes with a spout if bought in 10l quantities.  This is available for around £25 from scrwfix/toolstation, or the last lot I bought was £9.50 at Asda ;)

Wait til you get the warning, then chuck it all in, if your tank is more than about 15l, else chuck in half. Do not overfill beyond manufacturers limits.

When filling, because of the spout design, it may start to glug, in which case stop, as in my experience, it causes it to splash out.  If it keeps doing this, use a traditional funnel and pour it in like that - I'd argue thats easier than the spouts anyway, but does need a 2nd pair of hands.

Wipe up any spills immediately.

though I've never used it, there are apparently things on the market to help prevent the formation of Adblue crystals in the tank

The price of Adblue has shot up over the last couple of years. I remember when Euro Car Parts sold 2x10 litres of GreenChem Adblue for £16. Last one I bought (Redex) cost more than that for 10 litres.

And it doesn't help that every tom, dick and harry now needs it, increasing pressures on supply.  I think ShitFix/Toolstation as just under £25 for 10l from memory (these 2 are convenient for me, as they are both in Brakkers), but as said, occasional bargains to be had, like when I was in Asda MK last month :).

Thankfully not needed by me + the Range Rover will be my last Diesel vehicle ,so one less bit of nonsense to worry about .
