TB's buggered motor
« on: 12 July 2023, 16:07:01 »

P006A.  DTC snapshot data shows very low boost pressure, suspect a loss of boost pressure.

Sent the DTC snapshot data and some photos to that DTM geezer, and he concurs that one of the intake manifolds has split being the most likely cause.  Cheap, crap, plastic shite that plagues this engine.  Still, to be expected when it was a JV between the yanks and the French ;D

It probably takes a week just to get at the manifold, but TB likes a challenge!  :)

If I do DIY, have to decide if the genuine part is better quality than pattern.

Genuine part looks to be about £300, including the gasket and bolts.

Britpart pattern looks to be around £130ish.

Won't be buying a Ching Chong special from egay, as it really looks a shit to change, and only want to do it once.

I wouldn't consider anything other than genuine or the OEM personally.

I wouldn't consider that a big enough saving if it's as bad a job as it looks. Especially as it's a work car.

The Britpart one is probably the Ebay cheapie in a prettier box.

Was that a while back, as looks like part price (for genuine) has crept up in last few years...

That was 18 months ago at mistermatic a Jag specialist in Swansea very good service 👍 they went at different times so I dare say it would have been better to have changed both whilst there, would have been cheaper

The general consensus is to do both together, but from what I can see, the only commonality is the throttle body, which is about a 15-20 min job....

Get on with the DIY, it does not look that bad a job, plus the XJ is a much nicer drive and place to be than a Merc  ;D

Is it easier than a clutch on a modern front wheel drive, is it easier then welding cills on a rotten Ford, is it easier than a V6 head gasket change, is it easier than spark plugs on a smart car, I would say yes, its just unboting bits to get to them  ;D

That depends on which Smart  ::)
The 450/452 cars with the 6 spark plug engine is a bugger as all the back end has to come off to do the lower 3
however ..... the 451 cars with the Mitsubishi engine is no more difficult than any other car ..... they're right there at the back ... coil per plug.  :y :y :y

Britpart pattern looks to be around £130ish.

Won't be buying a Ching Chong special from egay, as it really looks a shit to change, and only want to do it once.

You are aware that the only difference between these two options is a Britpart branded box?

They aren't nicknamed Sh!tPart for nothing you know.  :y
