It's not noisy per se, as it is quite refined for its time, but there could be more sound deadening inside the cabin.

That said, the S Class produces a fair amount of wind noise from the mirrors.

BMW claimed 75kg of sound proofing in the E34. It's noticeably noisier than an Omega. Although it is pretty gutless on short gearing so it is working harder.
