Omega General Help / Thermostat Change - What the hell?
« on: 17 March 2013, 15:43:10 »
Is this?!?!?!?!

Stipped down big blue to do the thermostat as its a little sticky...and found the below.

£1 to 1p the thermostat is actually ok, just gunged up, but what is this stuff?  speads all the way down the oil cooler, but is dry and flakey there, but soggy by the stat...guess its clean it up and see what I have, interesting bolt choice holding the stat in too!

General Car Chat / The other New arrival
« on: 12 March 2013, 21:54:00 »
As some of you have noticed, my old red MV6 has moved onto pastures new,

Picked up its replacement on Friday morning, and generally quite pleased...

Got a 2008.5 Zafira B Elite, 1.9 Diseasal, 150bhp, 48K on the clock.

Its no Omega...but fits the bill for our current requirements.

Nice to drive, and smoother and quicker then I expected, economical too.  6 gears is going to take some getting used to though after an automatic!

At least we still have the other MV6 for playtime   :D

We've been debating this for a while, especially as Harry (our eldest) seems to really bonds well with Greyhounds as Simon (dad1uk) can testify - You can hardly separate his greyhound Jay and Harry at meets!  A rare bond for Harry, as he doesn't do relationships due to his Autism.

So weve finally done it, and adopted ex-racing greyhound Jack

We picked him up last Saturday, and he is settling into family life well, The kids both love him.

As said, now known as Jack, was previously known as Devil Fish in his racing days, where he won 9 out of his 31 races!

Our trusty old Panasonic DECT phones were dying a slow and painful death, and I have had my eyes out for a replacement for a while.

Anyway, while logging onto the BT site to report an unrelated fault, I saw an advert for their new phones  BT6500, with built in call blocking....

http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=33110

Did a little research, and ordered a set.

Got to say, They do what they say on the tin!

Nice menu to block calls on categories of International, withheld, payphone etc, or individual numbers.
Works by silently sending what you select to the answerphone (in case it was genuine)

We were getting up to 5-6 international calls a day sometimes, a right Pain in the bum.
Now REALLY enjoying the peace.

As for the rest of the phones function, Im not overkeen on the design, and buttons, and they seem a little sluggish in operation, but do like the autosyncing phonebooks.

I bet in a year, all the manufacturers will have copied the feature.   But if like us, you are sick of useless phonecalls all day, then I cannot recommend these enough, they have given us our peace back.

Well done BT!

obviously it would be best to be able to log onto your BT account and block these at source, but where is the incentive for them to do that, would be killing a nice little earner for them, this way they still get their connection charge ;)

Week or 2 ago, my (infinity) broadband went down, somewhat intermittently.

Did plenty of first line checks myself, swapping every cable out etc to no avail.

BT decided it was my home hub.  I didnt beleive them, the white modem possibly, but not the hub.

Anyway, they sent one (as it happens perfect service kicked back in before it arrived)

Swapped it out when it arrived, and sent the 'faulty' one back.

Few days later it came to my attention none of my servers were accessible from outside...Hmmm must have sent my NAT up wrong, weird as thats almost impossible with a HH, but there you go.

No, all fine... Hmmmm..... Google.

Ahhhhh

Bt have 2 home hub 3's rev a and ref b.  I must have had a rev b before, and they had sent a rev a, which has a pretty major flaw of port forwarding not working!

One email sent to BT outlining the problem, and a rev B model dispatched within 2 hours!

So fair play to BT on service...But come on!  a router that port forwarding doesn't work on!  inexcusable.

I know the home hub is a simple, basic device to suit the masses, and 99% wont notice that fault, but even so.  Shocked me.

I have a few more of these than I need....

So, £50 delivered gets you an 'Old Stock' pack of GM Front Brake Pads.

These are the Jurid riveted pads. Brand new in box.  Can take and upload photos if anyone really wants....

These are reported to give better braking, less fade, better pedal feel, less brake dust.  Certain members here swear by them and will 'happily' pay the approx £100 retail price.
