auto gearbox
« on: 29 April 2015, 16:41:50 »

hiya all, well i bet this wont get many responses but i will give it whirl....2000 cdx 2.5 v8 suddenly the gear box or selector went funny on me after a long run. when i was driving home in D it seemed to lack power then a huge thud , it was ok for 5 miles then again. now when its in drive it sound like a manual not quite in gear properly. if i put it in position 3 it runs ok kicks down etc. When i put it in D from P it does however pull off for a few min then its if it drops into neutral ie the revs go up but no movement and a slight crackling noise from the box. This is a great example and has only done 65k so i want to keep it. i have just had the MOT done and they did say they had done the handbrake release spring and the is next to the gear selector if that helps. Any help  would be great.

thanks

Transmission fluid level is the first thing to check, but must be upto temperature and with the engine running...

Next step would be a fluid and filter change...

If that's all OK, then it could be a sticky solenoid or the beginnings of thrust washer break up :-\

Fluid level first and foremost though :y

Experience on here shows that you cannot rely on garages to do the job properly, so needs a confirmation that it is correctly filled. :y

yep just checked the pin that locks the gear selector in park isn't returning. I return it by hand, press the brake pedal and releases the shifter as normal.....could this all be the problem?   ???
