Cars for Sale & wanted / 1999 3.0 V6 Elite saloon
« on: 26 February 2012, 19:25:35 »
Evening everyone, the time has sadly come to sell the omega. No service history when I bought her but in the 3years I've had her I've had done:

cambelt, tensioners, pulleys and waterpump (will need doing late this year/early next)
new a/c condensor and regas
new crank sensor
cam cover gaskets (done by mr darth)
replacement rear shocks, genuine self levelers (again done by mr darth)
auxillary belt and tensioners
replacement alternator
replacement dis pak
new battery fitted about 2 weeks ago
reverse parking sensors fitted (sensors connect to the little box in boot but not connected to a power supply)
new trak rod ball end for the mot
regular oil changes and services
4x new goodyear efficent grip in feb '11, less than 6000 on them!

She has tax till october and mot till feb '13 and has currently covered 99200 odd miles. Being the Elite she comes with everything, ac/cc, cruise, heated creame leather (drivers one doesn't work), heated mirrors and washer jets, factory sat nav, rear blind, etc etc. Also have the carapass for her.

The only downside is the rear o/s wheel arch is rusting a bit, nothing a wire brush and a bit of elbow grease won't cure and a few minor car park dings. Hopefully the pictures below will show what good condition she is in.

I'm looking for £700 ovno, feel free to msg on here or phone 07850840212 if you have any questions. I will also throw in 20l of genuine vauxhall oil :)

thanks

Omega General Help / HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: 16 January 2012, 21:53:20 »
Evening guys and gals. Got a slight problem with the miggy. Last month or so the car hasn't felt right, few times I've gone to it (in this cold weather) and the battery has been as dead as a dodo. Then the revs started hunting (with the dash lights dimming as the revs drop). Thought it could be the iacv/breathers/cam covers so took it to daz on friday and everything was clean. He put on on a meter and turns out the alternator is dying a slow death.

Since then when idleing, the whole car shakes and I'm 99% sure 1 if not 2 cylinders aren't firing (sp?) and well it sounds and goes like a tractor. Anyone with a spare alternator and an afternoon free willing to give me a hand? I really don't want to use it too much in case it does any permanent damage.

Thanks for any help or advice

Omega General Help / time for some winter maintainance
« on: 22 November 2011, 21:56:32 »
evening guys and gals, well work have given me 2 weeks holiday from friday, very unexpected but VERY welcome lol so have decided to do a few odds and sods to the car. The list as it stands:

1 - both front shocks need replacing, the pimped up bouncy suspension isn't a good look lol (to be fair they have needed to be done since I've had it, about 3yrs)

2 - Steering idler, again needed to be done for years

3 - just ordered a parking sensor kit thingy so will be putting that on

and finally may do an oil and filter change. Reguarding number 1, is there a guide for doing it? never changed the front shocks before so wondering how much of a pita it is to do, also best place for the shocks and associated parts?

I'm guessing it'll be easier to the steering idler at the same time as the passenger shock?

If anyone one is free for a sat or sunday then your welcome to come along and see me have an epic fail  :D

Omega General Help / auto interlock saga...
« on: 31 March 2010, 02:03:53 »
morning everyone, after months of having to pull the gaiter cover up and push the yellow lever forward to get it out of park, I replaced the brake light switch today and it made no difference at all.

I'm now thinking the solenoid itself is at fault, so with that in mind what are the part numbers and how do I go about removal/refitting? as ever, the haynes book of lies is useful ::)

Omega General Help / bit of a strange one this
« on: 14 January 2010, 11:55:21 »
Good morning everyone, as title, bit of a strange one this.

Christmas eve I went up to my mum's (Birmingham) traffic was horrendous on the M40, slowed down to about 10mph and the car just cut out, no warnings on the dash or mid, luckily had enough momentum to pull on the hard shoulder. The miggy then refused to start at all for around 1 1/2hrs, kept trying it but on luck. Greenflag turned up and it startd first time for him.

Left it running and after about 2mins cut out again, this repeated for about 10mins but it would re-start. Anyway, got it trailered to my muns and left it there till 28th, took it for a run no probs. Nursed it back home without incident. Was involved in a minor bump before christmas and had to take it to the bodyshop last tuesday and again it cut out whilst at a set of lights but it re-started first time.

haven't really used it much since then so fast forward to today, went to asda earlier parked up, did some shopping came home and parked up again, I then realised I hadn't parked as sensibly as i should have so went to move it and it won't start at all again.

It seems fine when started from cold (when the revs are higher) and honly seems to happen when it get's up to about 90 ish. I'm thinking ICV may need a clean or a sensor is on the way out.

Any ideas?

thanks mike

Omega General Help / brake light switch
« on: 10 December 2009, 12:59:58 »
afternoon everyone, quick question about the brake light switch. For months now the interlock system on the gearbox hasn't worked (press brake to release the lever out of park) and I suspect it has something to do with the bls. I know it's located above the brake pedal but is there a guide somewhere that will show how to do it in idiot proof steps?

many thanks

Omega General Help / continuing coolant leak saga...
« on: 09 November 2009, 12:49:40 »
As some of you may know my miggy has been using coolant every now and then, you can smell it when the heaters are on. Went for a drive yestersay, got back and parked up and noticed a bit of steam coming from the vent above the bonnet on the passenger side.

Took it for another run today and it's doing the same, hadf a closer look and you can hear like a fizzing (which would explain the steam) only problem is I think it's coming from behing the bulkhead so I@m thinking the leak is in the matrix somewhere. How much of a pain in the a$%e is that to repair?

thanks

Omega General Help / Any omega mechanics in London?
« on: 10 September 2009, 09:08:08 »
Morning everyone, just wondering if there are any miggy mechanics in London at all? Got a few things I need sorting out, coolant leak somewhere, suspect rocker cover gaskets and a few silly electrical gremlins. Thanks

Omega General Help / suspected rocker gaskets
« on: 27 August 2009, 17:03:24 »
afternoon all, went to check my spark plugs earlier but because I didn't have a big enough extention bar couldn't get them out, but when I pulled the bar out there was a bit of oil around the top of the socket wrench. Took the car for a run to the local dump to get rid of some old engine oil and when I got back and parked up there were a few drips of oil on the right hand side of the engine (when looking head on, drivers side on left) midway between sump and oil filter (I think) Could this be the rocker gaskets?

Also, got stuck in some traffic on the way back and the gague was constantly on 96 even when the cooling fan kicked in the the a/c on. Then for no apparant reason the traffic master lady did the whole speech about licence being expired even tho I did not touch or was anywhere near the buttton. Any Ideas?

Lastly, I have a coolant leak somewhere, no visible signs of any leaks so I'm thinking it's at the back, coolant bridge? Having said that when the cam belt was done in feb you could see dried coolant so I changed the hbv but not made a difference. Any Ideas?

Sorry for the long post, hope I've been accurate enough to give you an idea. If anyone lives in London (I'm in wandsworth) and would be willing have a look then there are beer tokens on offer  :D

Omega General Help / Driver's side door 'creaking'
« on: 30 July 2009, 16:14:20 »
Afternoon everyone, my drivers side door has been creaking for the last week so went to vx and got a replacement bush. changed it over and to be honest the old one was in pretty good shape, but changed it anyway and put plenty of grease on it. This hasn't cured the creaking problem.

Upon closer inspection I've found this, sorry for the poor quality It seems the housing where the strap goes into has either broken or become dislodged compared to the passenger side Any ideas on what I can do?

thanks

Omega General Help / small auto box problem
« on: 29 April 2009, 13:29:54 »
afternoon everyone,

You might remember me posting this back in janurary but decided to finally get it sorted. When I press the brake pedal it won't release the gear out of park, I have to flick the switch manually. A few people suggested it could be the brake switch above the pedal, but the brake lights work fine. Could it be the switch next to the gear leaver under the surround? If so what is this part called?

Many thanks

Omega General Help / auto box having a tantrum
« on: 14 January 2009, 14:15:55 »
Right, for the last week or so I've jumped in the car and pressed the brake pedal to select drive and it won't move. normally turning off/on the engine cures this but not today. Tried for the last 10mins but it will not budge. When I lift the release thing on the gear knob I can hear a clicking from the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Any ideas what has hapened? thanks
