Upgraded to MID - it works - Sort of!
« on: 15 February 2007, 19:39:46 »

Fitted MID to the 2.0 GLS today. It works, but need to sort out some errors.

It's displaying:

Coolant level
Oil lack
Brake Pad
Washer Fluid Level
Headlight / Tail light

Presume I just need to fit some sensors to cure these? Such as replace the coolant and washer bottles for ones with sensors? Will the loom connectors already be in place for these? What about the oil lack, and brake pad sensors?

Also, the headlight/tail light one, where does the MID communicate with this?

Any advice would be ace, because if I can sort this, I have a working MID in the GLS!!

coolant level, should be easy... just new header tank.

Oil lack, could be tricky not sure how it reads that?  :-/

Brake Pad - Again easy, should just be sensors.

Washer fluid level, again should be ok, replacement sensor from scrappy. I am wondering if you might need a new washer fluid tank  :-/ Depends if you have a blanking slot for the sensor...

No idea on the headlights... sorry.

Btw James I have a spare brake sensor, its cracked but it works. We can test on Sunday, see if it removes the MID error  :y

James - you must have these bits on the scrapper or the V6.

I'd check if you have rear windows as well - get them off before you scrap them

Indeed... I plan to transfer the rear electrics over! also the CD changer too!

The Scrapper has a MID, so I'm sure that will have sensors...
I'm just not sure where they all are!

Does the fuel computer work on it (albeit inaccurate due to wrong config)

It does, it's calculating Range, Inst Cons, Consumption and speed!!

Just need to iron out the sensor niggles, but I need to find out where they all are...

Coolant is in bottle, oil may be in sump, might be a pig. Pads may just need sensor. Lights will probably need the unit. And as to loom.....

Well the prefacelift has two pad sensors.

header tank for level

Oil - I think it must be a sensor on the sump - worst case swap sumps

what are the chances of all the plugs being on the loom?

If not, guess I'm screwed?

Well James you may as well get EVERYTHING off that CD you can use, if you are trying to produce a 2.0 Elite you can't neglect a few sensors!!!!

Jaime can check the config on Sunday afternoon

Totally agree!

Anyone know the locations of the sensors though?

Coolant sensor is under the coolant bottle.
Washer level sensor is on washer bottle (obviously!)
Oil level sensor is on the sump pan
Brake pad wear sensors....fairly obvious....
Bulb check requires the check control module adding

Or, short the check signal pins to 0V on the back of the MID....

I think I'll fit the relevent sensors

Will the loom already have the connectors in place for the sensors?
Will the sump need changing?
Also, where is the bulb check module?

You need to start doing a bit of hunting.....is the connector there for the coolant level sensor...its the easiest to find so the best place to start and will give us an idea if the loom is in place.

How many wires are there for the MID and which connectors does the MID (one large one or two smaller ones).

Bulb check I seem to recall is behind the glove box....this will probably be the make or break item as there must be some sort of plug in place at the moment to bypass the lighting feeds when no check module is fitted.

Right, near the suspension strut, there is a ten pin connector, I guess for cruise? There is also a two pin one, which looks like it could be for header tank? So it looks like loom is in place?

I can't tell whilst at work.

I'll have a peek though.

It does look like the coolant sensor.
