Ok I've read this post and I'm interested to know where the sampling fan is on the facelift. What does this fan do? Sounds like something I should check out to make sure it works ;)

I think it was agreed a week or so ago that there isn't one. Just a thyristor in the climate control panel.  :y

Check this out. Yours certainly seems typical of 3.0 and 3.2 Omegas.

Have a look on the spread sheet. Click on the tab called General Data and you will see ten 3.0l and 3.2l members' MPG data. The range is 17mpg to 26mpg. If you ignore the lowest and highest, the average is about 23mpg.  :y

In fact, the average mileage shown by our contributors across all variants is 26.2mpg. This does include some 35mpg+ diesels at one end though so you might want to discount those.  :y

Just goes to show how wrong I can be :-)
Thanks,
Edwin

The blue one was a 2.0 - more work than a V6 but it coped OK

Yep, we towed our five berth van to Newent last year with the 2.2. It never missed a beat. Took everything we threw at it.  :y
Only because I missed with the petrol and match ;)

Yes, your coordination wasn't the best that weekend. You destroyed a laptop and trampled a little girl, yet you managed to miss a break off great caravan.  ;D

Disconnecting sounder worked

 ;D ;D ;D

But doesn't solve the question of why it went off in the first place.  ;)

V true  :y

Tho if Martin replaced the batteries in the power sounder last year....id rule the batteries out.......

To me..it suggests its detecting low car battery voltage....and hence thinks the car battery has been disconnected......which obviously isnt true if the car will start in the morning....sooooo sounds poss theres a bad connection somewhere as someone else suggested.....and overnight the bad connection means the voltage drops to a point where the power sounder thinks the battery has been disconnected.........just an idea and i think worth checking the connections  :y

That doesn't match my experience Dave. My battery was knackered but it kept enough charge to start the car every day. It was only after it had been used when the engine was not running for any period of time that it ran flat. I know what you're thinking but I mean, pumping up tyres with a compressor, leaving the caravan on the back with the fridge running for 20 minutes or other such things.

The alarm would go off most nights between 0200 and 0400 much to mine and my neighbours annoyance. The last straw was when we had hitched up the caravan for a short break last Easter when the car just wouldn't start. Called out the AA and he told us that the battery was knackered. I wasn't going to buy one off him so off we went to Bude for our break. I never locked the car overnight for the few days we were there. When we returned, and I started locking the car again at night, the alarm started going off again.

I eventually bought a new battery from Halfords, as I didn't want to caught out again and, lo and behold, the alarm stopped going off at night.

I had no idea that changing the battery would fix the rogue alarm problem but, when the same thing started happening to the wife's Astra, I changed the battery in her car and acheived the same result. :y :y

I had this problem once and I cured it by disconecting the battery usual way and cleaned terminals and battery connectors, I reconnected the battery the usual way and it was fine after that (it may be just luck, but it may help you out)   :-?

That may explain why, when both mine and the wifes cars had the same problem, changing the batteries solved the problem on both occasions.

My battery was definately knackered as it kept running flat. The wife's, on the other hand, is still holding it's charge in the garage 4 months after changing it.

Got to be worth cleaning the terminals Martin to see if this makes any difference.  :y

Ok I have a new radiator  :y but now I have to do a full head gasket, this is not going to be fun, I have had rough quotes of about $2500 to do it ( 3 times the cost of the car )  :'( and even the head gasket set they are wanting $842.00 for the full gasket set....thats like £340  :'( and I have seen full sets on UK Ebay for £50 plus whatever it will cost to ship to NZ, does anyone have any idea's how long it would take to get here :question
Now all I have too do is find an old school garage that is not paying for a fancy workshop and a cappicino machine  ;D

UPS from GB to NZ would be about £50. Delivery around 6 days.  :y

OK.. I feel I need to add a little bit more info.

Firstly I would like to offer my sinceer thanks to all those who have taken the time to reply to my plea for help I am most grateful!  :D

I note that when the alarm goes off the indicators are flashing AND the red LED inside the car on the centre console flashes.  :-/

So far I note my problem might be one of the following.....
  • Faulty bonnet switch
  • Weak or faulty battery (unlikely, seems to have plenty of life in it, cranks the old diesel up no problem![/highlight]
  • Sounder batteries need replacing.
  • Someone likes it so much they want to nick it.... Nah I think it would be gone by now!
I'll take some time to look at it tomorrow with hope I don't need to take it to the Vauxhall dealer.
(Not the done thing after I got stitched up by them having charged me £380 to replace two back coil springs last week!) I didn't realise most of the £££'s were fitting!! ... Yeah I know I must have had a white stick or something!
>:(

So did it on both of our cars. Once changed no more 3.00am alarm calls.  ;)

I suspect this is a problem with the car battery. Has it ever been changed or is it still the original? At five years old yours is probably getting a bit long in the tooth IMO.

I had this problem on both my Omega and the wife's Astra. The car alarm is designed to sound when someone disconnects the battery and if it doesn't hold it's voltage and drops below a certain level then the alarm will sound as it thinks the battery has been disconnected. Once we replaced the car battery the problem went away within a day or so and now our neighbours can sleep soundly again.  :)

If this is not the case, I belileve that there is a rechargeable battery in the power sounder that could be faulty and as Jimbob says it could also be a problem with the bonnet sensor not being lined up properly.

Perhaps the first thing to do would be to check the battery condition first thing in the morning to see how much votage is left which will give you an idea of battery condition. I am reluctant to get this done at a battery outlet as I'm always afraid that they will just try to sell you a battery.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :)

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5Td Coolant change
« on: 12 January 2008, 19:54:42 »
Don't know how to drain the system but the cooling circuit holds 10.2 litres with manual transmission and 10 litres with automatic.

Also, only use anti-freeze 90 297 545 / 19 40 656 and ensure a concentration of 50%.

Don't know which type that is, but someone else will be able to help.
