Mother Tunnie is currently sitting in...
« on: 04 January 2013, 14:57:19 »

A brand new Audi A6 4.0 V8 Estate, something along lines of this...

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201245491699683/sort/default/usedcars/body-type/estate/engine-size-cars/4l_to_4-9l/model/a6/make/audi/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/tw89de/radius/1500/page/1/advert-type/standard-listing?logcode=ucnnp

She said she likes it  ::)

Feels better built, which I can't deny the feel very solid.

When she started looking at a replacement, I suggested some very nice Insignia or Mondeo Estates, found a nice Elite Insignia 2.0 CDTi, leather the works.

Her first response? "Only a 2.0? I don't want anything less than a 3.0"  :o :o :o :o :o

Won't be that price or engine, more like a 12 month old example & diesel.

Looks like even with 3.2, myself and FatherT will have slowest cars  :(

Over £50k she could get some nice cars for that price, and audi would not be on the list.

Heck you could have an Aston for that kind of money.

You're not wrong there Mark. I have my 3.2 Elite, a 330d E92 M Coupe and my wife has a 320d E92 M Coupe.
I'll get shot for saying this but the 330d will eat my Elite and embarrassingly the 320d will hang on to the Elite on top speed. Surprisingly, the 320 diesel will see 150mph on the clock, but not on our UK roads obviously.  :)

Yup, but where would two large dogs sit?

Has to be an Estate, as dogs can go in the back. If they see a cat or another dog although 90% time they are very good, they could jump all over place.

As she wants something with no less go than 3.0, get feeling she wants something with more go!

Means, E-Class Mercs, Audi A6 Estate, BMW 530d are main ones on the list

Forgot about those, might have to take MotherT to BMW dealer.

I'd probably consider in the following order;

L322 Range Rover - Not the Sport, the 3.6 TDV8 is a wonderful engine, and the 4.4 TDV8 is becoming more affordable. At the lower end of the pricing is the Supercharged, which you've driven. TDV8's are perhaps the best compromise with fuel costs and performance.

530d or E320/E350 - Both very capable, comfortable etc.

Volvo V70 2009+

Although, for me the full size Range Rover is very hard to beat, spacious, comfortable and performance is excellent. Running costs are sensible aswell, even I've changed the front strut / air bag - so not too difficult to work on if you fancy some DIY every so often.

Very true, how did you get on working with yours? Think I would want to get some heavy duty bigger stands, maybe get a bigger jack too.

Are you about on Monday mate?

Mine was a '55' AJ-V8 SC, genuine parts - Air filter - £12, spark plugs £5 each x8, oil filter was £7ish and it takes 5w30 which is nice and cheap with VX TC. Fuel filter is not meant to be changed, it's part of the pump.
I'd think a 3.6 TDV8 would be more suitable, and prices are now from £15,000 for a 2006/2007 to £30,000 for a very low mileage 2009. The final facelift that came out at around '59' plate does have somewhat chav styling, but is much nicer on the inside, full TFT drivers instrument cluster, dual view screen etc.

I am indeed about on Monday  :y
