I really need to force myself to get to work on the French contraption. Now have all the parts (I hope) and a few days off work, so no excuse other than lack of interest.
Might tot up my petrol receipts for the last few weeks for motivation.  ::)

Oil and Filter on the daily, most likely the very last one.  ::)

I think your plan is the more sensible one.
Made a start on it today. Need to change cam oil seal, cambelt and aux. belt.
Jack up o/s front. Remove wheel. Remove arch liner. Remove 6 nuts holding fuel filter bracket in place and cable tie fuel filter out of the way. Remove aux. belt.
Next is remove crank pulley. To do this move to the other side and remove airfilter trunking, airfilter box, battery, battery tray, bolts holding cable tray to bellhousing, then remove two bolts which hold starter motor.
I stopped there when it started raining.
Next thing will be - remove front bumper (which is actually the front of the car) to allow removal of starter motor.
Then jam something in the ring gear so the crank pulley can be undone.
I can then commence the jobs that actually need doing.
The frenchman who designed this contraption must have had a pathological hatred of mechanics  ::)

Yes it’s horrible when you’re caught up in it, but you’ll get it done I’m sure,  and it’s going to be a nice sunny day tomorrow👍

Had an odd electrical problem with the Boxster a few days ago that took a bit of finding.
I decided to check all the bulbs were ok as the MOT isnt too far away.
Replaced a number plate bulb, then checked the rear lights. The fog light wasnt working, so checked the fuse and the bulb which were ok.
A bot of further delving showed I actually had four brake lights instead of two. One of the o.s ones was where the fog lamp should be and one of the n/s ones was where a foglamp would be on a lhd car.
Eventually I noticed the outer insulation had been stripped back on both clusters, so had a look.
Someone had chopped though the fog light feed and left it loose in the loom, but also chopped through some of the other wires and then joined them up again to the wrong colour wires.
I undid the mess and joined all the wires up to their corresponding coloured wires.
Lo and behold I now have one pair of brake lights and an o/s fog light just as Porsche intended.
Why anyone would want to do this, and how it ever passed an MOT I cant begin to imagine.  ::)  ???

This is very accessible in the cavernous spare wheel well, with the exception of the fiddly terminals - You have to hold a nut up under the 'arched' terminal while you bolt the cables to it.

Ah French s**t , after 50 odd years on the spanners they are one of the worst (badly?) designed piles of poo out there. It makes me laugh when I see the ads for the new rubbish they are pushing .

Only ever had one french car many years ago  1987 Renault 11 Turbo went very well indeed but had several silly problems in my ownership, vowed never to own a French car again.
