Omega General Help / Re: poor power 2.5 td
« on: 08 May 2013, 17:33:54 »
does your rev counter work if it does ignore code 31
92 ignore if you dont have cruise control
96 best to blank off egr you might find its already blanked off.
64 try putting forte diesel treatment direct into a new fuel filter (pour the whole bottle into filter) start the engine and hold the revs around 1800 rpm for a couple of mins. You might need to repeat this a couple of times (you only need to empty out the diesel out of the filter by this stage then repeat the process). But bottom line to get rid of 64 if this fails its a new injector pump ive been there done that.
When it starts stalling then at junctions/traffic lights I personaly would drive it to the nearest breakers a new pump costs £1400+vat I managed to get a re-con for £860

Hi guys i am used to driving a 3.0 v6 but just bought a 2.5td. Now i know its not going to be anywhere near as fast but the diesel doesnt seem to have any power until about 2500 revs. :'(  is this normal? i know there is the problem of turbo lag but it seems rather extreme. Also when i take my foot off the accelerator pedal the eml flashes on the off any ideas what that could be or do i need to get the fault codes read ??? Is there anything i can do to try and give it a bit more power in the low revs? dont really want to be driving around at over 2500 rpm all the time.  :y
The eml light flashing is a bit worrying this could be the injector pump failing if it is the next thing that will start happening is it will stall when your slowing down at a junction or traffic lights.
As for the vac pipe the end that goes to the bulkhead is a open to atmoshpere. It should have a small filter on the end of it if not fit one.I used a small inline fuel filter.
Last bit of advice try and keep the fuel tank above 1/4 :y
Do a paperclip test and post results

I'm watching the local news in Yorkshire. They need a beep machine. ;D

Apparently Liverpool town center is booming, right or wrong I wont judge but she certainly provoked strong feelings in this city!

She wasn't so popular up north. ::) ::) ;)
There was a party in George square Glasgow yesterday to celabrate she's dead.

« on: 09 April 2013, 06:40:57 »
Cheers Steve. I'm now trying to work out the finer details between the 4.0 and 4.6. Gems versus Bosch etc etc.
Stay well clear of the 4.6 the bores tend to leak(same block as the 4.0 but re-bored) and the lpg will burn out the back two pistons (4 & 8 ) this is the same problem with the V8 disco's.
Another thing to watch out for is the button for the diff lock these tend to fail and if you go for the diesel get a manual.
If I bought one the first thing i'd do is convert it to coil springs

Omega General Help / Re: TD gutless, no kickdown, any ideas?
« on: 03 April 2013, 17:58:49 »
I'd be cleaning out the vac pipes as well mind don't take them all off at once if you mix them up the car won't run well (been there done that ;D).
The vac pipe to the underside of the inlet manifold around num3-4 injector tends to get full of old oil and carbon deposits :y

Getting 12v to the pump solinoid is a good sign the solinoid will stay open down to 5v.
I'd be doing the paper clip test to look for fault codes plus as others have said replace glowplugs :y

« on: 22 March 2013, 22:12:14 »
You can also top up your cpc by taking a 7.5 hour coarse every year once you complete the inital 35 hrs and you can ask for a grant from the ILA (independant learning authority max £200) which is enough to pay for the coarse thus keeping you above the 35 hrs and the goverment pay it :y
There is a website run by DSA that allow drivers to keep track on cpc hours I'll try and find it and post link here.
Just one thing to bear in mind that after the deadline you won't be able to drive a lgv/psv without a cpc.

Whens the last time you serviced it.
Black smoke is over fueling which can be caused by a dirty air or fuel filter

General Car Chat / Re: omega insurance - classic car perhaps
« on: 14 March 2013, 07:49:49 »
hi , i have a 99 MV6 auto saloon on a V plate.

the wife has her astra and i have my disco so i am having difficulty insuring the mig as all no claims used up on the other two cars and multi car policies are, despite their claims, i find are very expensive

has anyone managed to get a classic car policy on their mig. some folk reckon if a car is 10 years old it qualifies as a classic but i have drawn a blank at moment

any pointers anyone  ;)
The car has to be 15yrs old and you have to be a member of a reckonised club that list your car as a classic. You could try Autobahnstormers but I doubt you will have any joy

Don't forget Vamps you also need your Driver's CPC after September 2013 or your licences for HGV and PCV are not worth the paper they are written on!!
You must of completed 37 hours cpc before september 2014 for psv and it's september 2016 for LGV.
You can apply for a grant from the ILA (independant learning authority) for £200 every year to pay for the cpc this is what I done. You need to do a coarse every year to keep above the 37 hours it's a load of 'dangle berries' from the tits in Brussels and the digi tacho card is every 5 years at a cost of £19
