Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Sunshine roof not moving (2)

The bloke I bought my Omega from told me that the sun roof always failed after the battery was disconnected and it had to go to the garage to be fiddled with.  I discovered that if you just apply a little bit of upward pressure on the switch, it resets and the thing starts working again.

That's not a "failure" - it's standard, most of the sunroof switch functions cease to work after battery disconnection/reconnection.  Off the top of my head, you have to turn the switch to each "position" and push it in, or push it in and turn it.  Similar thing for the electric windows - they lose the one-touch function after battery disconnection, and you have to open the window, close it by holding the switch forward, and keep it held forward even after the window has closed or push it forward again after its closed or similar.

Must type faster...
Spray some WD40 under the keys on your keyboard, it'll gain you those vital extra thousands of seconds.

And does anyone who drives an Omega really want to be impersonating Saxo-driving-backwards-baseball-cap-wearing-foglights-on-in-all-weather chavs?  lol

I think you're missing an important point - at £15 all in, the portable one was sold as not needing a subscription ever, not as "subscription paid up-front".

Removed the Traffic Master system from my Omega when I was changing the brakelight switch (control unit was in the way) and never replaced it, as there's a much better system that Traffic Master have sold in the past that doesn't need any subscription ever.  Its called "Traffic Alert 1210" a small unit that you stick at the top of your windcreen (inside!) and beeps and shows green, amber and red lights to tell you the extent, direction and distance of any hold ups.  I've had my unit for 10 years, bought at a cost of £15.  Just did a quick search on eBay and found one that sold cpl of months ago so you can see a pic of what I'm on about...

On the old Omega you just cut the red/white wire IIRC :-/
Always grab the cat first, before you cut the wire - in case it's the wrong one and you have to make a run for it....

Omega General Help / Re: Aftermarket brake discs and pads OK?

HEY!
Thanks for your experiences guys but after reading i am MORE confused about what is the best disks and pads replacement option :-/.

Vx do not manufacture and apparently Delphi and Bosch manufacture for the OEM(??!!) and Mintex also claim to manufacture for the OEM's. so what really is the difference if any... we may never know... ;)
The moral of all these stories is to use quality items, not just the cheapest pads you can get of the right size - you get what you pay for, after all.

I fitted Mintex pads and discs at the front on my 99 2.5V6 and I'm very happy with them.  Mintex make a claim that their pads and discs work particularly well together, rather than mixing and matching their pads with someone else's discs or vice versa.

Saw a huge improvement straight away (even before pads had bedded in completely) over the cr*p that the previous owner had had fitted - allegedly at a Vx dealer in Northampton.  The pads I removed even had metal anti-squeal shims stuck on the back of them - I thought they went out of use the same time as the Ark...lol.

Unless I'm mistaken, you don't actually need to unplug the MID - the clocks panel will tilt forward enough and rest face down on the steering column with the grey connector still in place, and you can access the bulbs that way.

The Omega setup has been tested and approved by Thatcham

The immobilser meets Cat 2 and with the alarm Cat 1 is achieved.

Thatcham is for alarm and immobiliser aporoval and is not specific to the after market and hence it does NOT imply that an after market security device has been fitted :y
I disagree strongly - if what you've said were true, what is the point of the "standard fit alarm/immobiliser" option on the quotation?

its always one of the options when getting an online quotation; when they ask about alarms in the drop down it says 'factory alarm/immobiliser' and 'thatcham cat 1 approved' or something like that, thought i'd check before i go for a renewal next month!

Then you need to select "factory alarm/immobiliser" instead - otherwise you're implying it's a professionally-fitted aftermarket system that's been tested by Thatcham.  If your car got stolen, a jobsworth claims handler could kick up a fuss if you couldn't (and you wouldn't be able to) send them the certificate of fitting.

I'd drop the windows and try some good old warm soapy water first...  allow to dry and see how that goes first,,,   spray the runner/seals with some glass cleaner....

Pretty sure that'll sort it..
