There is no dashboard illumination with the lights off.

The Display has full brightness backlighting with lights off, and the dimmer dial controls it with lights on.

Which is how it should be on all cars .... maybe then there wouldn't be as many halfwits driving with no lights on 1st thing in the morning or just DRLs

They would still be halfwits, albeit illuminated :D

Hi guys,

I have been very brave and taken the instrument cluster out
So easy I’m impressed,
But now it’s out there I have taken the bulbs out the back of the digital display
They are fixed to little green holders 3 of then have blown they are completely black,
Now are they standard can you buy in the likes of Halfords, complete with green holder as they don’t seem to come out.
Also forgive my ignorance but as for the cluster general illumination
Is it the 4 yellow holders that are the illumination bulbs? And are these sold Halfords etc.

The display ones come as "1 piece" with the bulb and holder.  The dash illumination are a standard capes fitting, and the bulb pulls out of the holder.

You might struggle at Halfords for the display ones, or to get right wattage of the illumination ones.  Try a proper motor factors, you'll get more joy there, than from a cycle and satnav shop like Hlafords.

Yes 2W (Might be 2.1W that are standard IIRC), you will find 3W are far too bright and will be totally out of balance with all the other dash / console / screen illumination.

Change all of the bulbs, not just the blown ones. They're only a few pence each.

You miss-understand me - at night you'll find the dash cluster is far too bright compared to the rest of the dashboard - ie. Centre Console, CID display (if you have it) which is backlit in a different way to the other screens and does not have bulbs fitted to the rear, transmission etc, so what you find is you use the dimmer to correct the brightness level and when you get it dim enough to not be distracting at night, the rest of the areas mentioned before aren't illuminated enough. Hope that makes sense!
