General Discussion Area / Re: Bring back the rope
« on: 18 September 2012, 21:37:28 »
Since the rope was abolished every now and then it's been raised that it should be brought bacfor the murder of a police officer in the line of duty. This I do not agree with as I don't think their life any more precious than anyone elses.Bring back the rope by all means but for the murder of anyone. My sympathies go to the families of the murdered police women. If we are not to have capital punishment ,then I believe that a life sentence should mean exactly what it says on the tin, LIFE!

One of the few times I agree with capital punishment. This b*stard KNEW they were unarmed women police officers and chose to KILL them, deliberately and intentionally.
Sorry if you don't agree with me, but lethal injection, gas chamber, electrocution, whatever. . Waste of breath.

Hello Rich!   four tyres, recon rad, cambelt kit and service/recon bits cost me more than £400!!  seriously, did say I would consider serious offer from someone who knows these cars, too good to break, and with fantastic engine/autobox and immaculate interior just couldnt do it, besides, it FLEW through the mot......

Couldnt get back to you through OOF, reckoned you just made £50 for the inconvenience and trouble. Somebody who needs an engine could buy this, strip it, and make some money, or somebody else could have a brill car. Wish I could keep it, but solicitors dont wait long for their money, and I've already sold my caravan and loads of other stuff too...

Thankyou for good wishes All.

General Discussion Area / Hello again.....LOOOONG time no talk!!
« on: 28 August 2012, 10:33:08 »
Hi All, been away too long and now back in the communal home and have internet access!   woo-hoo.....
Relationship breakup and resultant "poor as a church mouse" status, but now somewhat settled after many months at my fathers house in spare bedroom, kipping at a mates house, sleeping in my car on the odd occasion, and instability.
Financial matters to be settled now, and about 7K to pay various people (solicitors, father, ex......) to get financially stable.
Had to sell a lot, and unfortunately now my miggy elite too, but as soon as I'm solvent completely, will look for a facelift diesel estate or a 3.2 elite estate. Using my motorbike cos it's cheap, but missing my lovely auto box..........!!
Have been back a fair time in the house but struggled to keep bills paid, and internet and phone were a luxury I couldnt afford, PAYG mobile just affordable, all cars sorned and using 'bike for work keeping my head above water. Things getting better, and all thanks to friends here and locally for keeping me sane and on occasion fed and watered with somewhere to sleep. She has been gone many months now, but still after just a little bit more, and solicitors are the only people happy with the situation (and the money!!).............Doesnt take long to run up a fair bill does it????

Been away from here for a long time due to relationship breakup and having to live away from the mutual home without internet access, and the ability to go there to work on the car.
Unfortunately have to sell to meet legal costs of breakup my lovely Omega estate Elite. Apologies to mods who may think this is just an excuse to sell my motor after a long time, I assure you it isnt, and will be buying another miggy as soon as I'm straight monitarially.
Before all this happened, I rebuilt my engine, changed the drop links and wishbones, did the cambelt and tensioners, changed both headgaskets, replaced all belts, and changed auto gearbox oil too. My intention was to totally revamp the car, and keep it for the foreseeable future. Longstanding members may remember this car, it was bloody lovely condition, cream leather upholstery, unmarked, carin satnav, every extra possible, and apart from a few marks on the bodywork, top notch.
NOW, it is still immaculate inside, and mechanically 100%+, but the bottoms of the back doors are starting to rust (a common place), underneath is great as undersealed from new. Have just MOT'd it, and put 4x new tyres on it to pass mot too!, and drives superbly.
No tax as sorned, but to date all it has as a problem is an air block on the heater matrix, which if I have time will flush and rectify. Was fine before stored, probably a bit of disuse?? starts and runs quiet and as new.
When the engine was done, it was flushed, sump removed, bores measured and checked, new crank bearings just because I had some.......all valvegear checked and refitted, waterpump, oil pump, cambelt, tensioners, obviously all new gasket set and rocker gaskets done with black sealant, pipes and hoses and reconditioned radiator fitted also. Car has done 168k, but you would'nt know it, and will easily do 168k more now!! Apart from the doors, needs NOTHING to do for years now.
Have to take off private plate and put "T" reg plate back on.   Would like £750 for it, but will take a really sensible offer from an informed individual who knows these cars.

Thankyou for your indulgence.

Mike.

My system URF-5b, dunno about the newer ones.
Works like that on mine. Found another control box on a scrap vectra for £30, so are available.

Sounds stupid, as they all "tick", but unplug the two middle sensors and try again. If that doesn't change the situation, unplug the two outside ones, replacing the two other plugs first!!

This wil do two things.....firstly it will make sure the two ultrasonic sensors are not cross inducing themselves, (meaning faulty) and that the control box is not faulty on one channel only, because the bosch unit is a two channel device, and if one channel is u/s, it will show a "close up" signal, and it will also tell you which channel is ok, giving you some useability. (albeit on set of sensors, and you can then obtain another unit safe in the knowledge it is kaput.)

Unfortunately, to my knowledge the only people that repair them is Bosch UK in slough, but the cost is bound to be prohibitive, and if you can get a s/h one once you are sure it is buggered.............

Hope this helps you, mate.

Be careful......
BHP figures optimistic.......

NOT so easy to fit, and will need a damn good service first.

Bought one a bit back, faster on accelleration, ran worse, fuel figures poor.

Use a well known firm that does them, NOT an ebay unknown.

Try INTERPRO or SUPERCHIPS first port of call.

Mike

HaHa! yep, I know where Malmo is..........

just take your time, and I'll look forward to your posts when it is done.

Good Luck!!

No, easily within the scope of a d.i.y orientated person.

If you are unsure or not confident enough, Darth Loo-Knee, or many others on here will happily do it for you for folding beer vouchers!!

*edit* dunno where "Lund" is, and seeing you call an estate a caravan, assume not in UK. This job is relatively easy, you must get the torque settings for the parts you need to remove, but the last ones I personally did took me about a whole day to do, from drive in to drive off. The Haynes or other manuals have a good section on pictorial assembly, so would buy one of those publications. Essentially you should have a good torque wrench, and a socket set including "torx" male and female types of sockets.
Take a deep breath, its really not that difficult.
