Omega General Help / Re: Coolant transfer pipe well stuck
« on: 11 January 2020, 22:07:43 »
Nice one for the input. I take it the best way to refit it all is bolt down the thermostat then grease the o rings and insert and slightly twist the coolant pipe until its in the correct position for the bolt. Thanks

Yep mate i will take off the power steering res and pipes as you know there aint no room for anything in there. With those out the way should help. Yep the dremel with the extension is good, i dont know why i didnt think of using it lol. Hands are well and truly battered though.Does the engine lift bracket come off it seems to want to just swivel out the way like its attached to something at the bottom and is it lift bracket, dipstick then coolant pipe bracket in that order on the refit. Thanks

;D gotta love it thanks guys.Glad ive attemped it. I will wait until monday now as im working.Ive got a dremel with a flexi extension put a cut off wheel on it and cut it off.Still its nearly done lol except the bstard bolt getting it back in.Transmission has been working fine since i changed the gear selector switch.I noticed in TIS that they use a kent moore switch unit to set the position as it plugs into the switch, its got lights on it and when lined up they flash.I did see one on ebay other day.

Omega General Help / Coolant transfer pipe well stuck
« on: 10 January 2020, 18:56:42 »
Hi its gav again was all going well, Bstard bolt has came off eventually lol.Swear box is overfilling but the coolant transfer pipe is welded tight to the thermostat. The old bracket on the transfer pipe cast has broken off where i was hitting it.the thermostat has cracked across the bottom near the bolt but is still fixed in the bolts are loose and ive had them out but put them back in to keep the pressure on it.An ideas drill it out with a series of small holes further up the try and shatter it maybe.Any help would be great thanks Gavin.

Thanks mate thats excellent. With a higher torque rating i guess the ar35 is a better box by far and i will be on the lookout to store one for a future change over.Im gonna change out the fluid on the box as long as the fluid is spot on specs anyway after inspecting it to see level and colour.Ive drove it again for 30 mins today and although it does light up everything sometime it settles on each gear position on the stick and did not jump into limp mode at all.So that was the problem i have other gear selectors to try and have cleaned up the old one which was caked in that white grease but hard inside. But i will try others to completely clear the lights as it must be that.Im just waiting on the parts for the thermostat change and am glad that im doing stuff myself with the help of everyone on here as the stealers wanted 320 quid to do it lol.I am looking for a tech 2 guy in kent as well if anyone knows one. Thanks Have a great new year.Gavlar. :y

Lol Very true. Is there anywhere that does serviced ar35 boxes ready to be fitted for sale. They must need the gearbox ecu with it,does it need programming etc.How do you go about it.Thanks

Hi mate nice one its an ar25 no leaks from anywhere but i bet the fluid is low. When you say drain and refill do you mean just open the top up hole and fill it up until it comes out then repeat that over a number of weeks as i cant see a drain hole. Was thinking to take the sumps off and drain it via those but are they a bit temperamental to complete fluid changes if not properly removed. Thanks

Omega General Help / Update Seems to be working.
« on: 30 December 2019, 19:37:34 »
Hi all hope everyone had a great xmas just an update on the gear selector.I have now replaced the gear selector and also managed to have a good look under the car which has shed some light on possible other stuff but thats for later. The gear selector feels better and does select each gear with the yellow light engaged but it also still lights up all positions and flickers during selection, only sometimes via the stick. I drove it back after replacing and it hasnt thrown up the auto box limp mode lights crossed fingers so far.I took it apart checked and cleaned the tracks regreased and tp be fair the old one when i opened it up had solid white grease all over the tracks inside hard as a rock. When in drive it doesnt jump into limp mode and the old unit looked like the little slot was way out on the casing when mounted.Seems to be getting better as i drive and no erratic behavior from the box when driving.I didnt check the fluid level so thats next should i just top it up or flush it.Thanks Gavin

Cheers mate ,yep i know what you mean i always like doing a job properly and it is getting difficult to source parts but i guess thats why i love the omegas.Let out an old boy on my way into tonbridge yesterday in a pristine 2.2, he had it looking mint, bet he had it from new as well, not a mark on it, did laugh.I have managed to get one from cyprus 15 quid 10 quid postage in original GM packaging, new part, so will wait on that to arrive before attempting it because its bound to break. Is Febi or topran the best fit for the themostat and any tricks on loosening them up on removal please. Thanks Gavin

Lol i would fill it on a good day but yep having had a 2.2 i know what you mean.Spoke to vaux parts today the said theres none anywhere, the tube that is, as the gaskets go with it thats those done in as well. If the old one can be removed could it be sealed inside with something if the o rings are a little done in.Thats presuming it comes of lol. Is the no room to rotate it and just remove the themostat from just the housing therefore keeping the bond between the housing ok.Thanks gavin
