Motoring icon of our youth was launched 60 years ago.
Where have the years gone!

The green stripe and little yellow Lotus badge. :y
I hear the MK1 was called a Lotus Cortina because they were assembled at the Lotus factory.....and the MK2 was called a Ford Cortina Lotus because it was built at the Ford factory.
True or not?

Speaking of Lotus....
TB still owes me a Lotus Carlton. :)

I think that these days that would be a cheap standard MK2 Cortina, let alone a Lotus Cortina? :-\

If so, that is insane.
The MK2 Cortina was literally thrown together by people who were apathetic and couldn't give a flying f*uck.
As for quality control and rust proofing forget it.....after 3 years there would be more Isopon and old newspaper than metal. ;)

£90k for a nice MK1 Lotus. Crazy. ::)

I had a 65 Cortina, which, as alluded to above, was a total rust bucket, yet after 2 year’s ownership, and x cans of filler, it is the only car I ever sold at a profit!!!, Go figure.
