General Car Chat / Re: Most reliable car ever owned ?
« on: 05 February 2014, 17:22:43 »
I've been driving legaly  :) since 1985 and have probably had about 15-20 cars but thinking back hard I think my Omega has been the most reliable, I have had a few of the usual problems but out on the road it has only ever let me down once in 3 years.

Omega General Help / Re: ABS-ECU Refurb ?
« on: 04 February 2014, 14:46:15 »
Anyone know the best/cheapest place to get my ABS-ECU refurbed ? I've had the front wheels off and the wheel speed sensors and wiring dont appear to be damaged in anyway, so I dont think the problem lies there, at first it was intermittent the TC and ABS would come on for awhile and then go off for awhile but for the last 3 months or so they have been on permantley, also is it a hard job to remove the ABS-ECU ?

BBA reman have recently put their prices up and now want £200 for doing an Omega ABS ecu which is too much, you are better off using ECU Testing ltd - they still charge £100 plus £30 collect and deliver

  Telephone: 01773 535638

(If calling from outside the UK dial: ++441773535638)

Address:

ECU Testing LTD.

Good info, thanks.

Thanks Kevin, saved me a bit of messing about, my MOT has just run out and I think I'm right in saying any warning lights on all the time is an automatic failure now, I think I will put it in for it's MOT and if it 's not going to cost me too much aside from the ABS ECU I will get it refurbed.

Thanks Zirk, I just started looking at this guide http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90627.0 and it says check the sensor on the near side rear as this is where the speed is from, for some reason I thought it was the near side front, should I check the rear ?

Just to add I bought a cheap hub with a sensor on it but cant shift the sensor to get it off, I removed the Allen bolt but the actual plastic sensor doesent want to move

Omega General Help / Re: TC & ABS.

I cant believe I have left this for nearly a year, anyway my MOT has just run out and I still have the TC and ABS lights lit up and I think I am right in saying that is an automatic fail now thanks to Europe, my plan was to replace the wheel speed sensor on the near side front wheel and see if it cures it, I swear I looked on ebay for them before Christmas and they were going for about 30 quid, I just had another look and they are now approaching a hundred in some places  :o anyone know a cheaper source ? if that didnt work the next step of the plan was to get my ECU re-furbed.

Should I have started a new thread ?

Sounds like you are nearly sorted,so well done.

Dont be tempted to run engine with only 2 bolts in that pulley as it may throw the belt and do more damage.

Thanks for the advice because I would have tried starting it, hope I can find one somewhere , I think I read it is an M4, can I use any M4 bolt and cut it down ?

Fantastic build any updates ?

Just finished for today and it's looking good  :y had a leak on coolant bridge where I used old washers, the metal and rubber ones, bloke at Vauxhall couldnt find the coolant bridge on there system yesterday, quick trip up there just before they shut tonight armed with a part number i found on an old site from 2006 and i walked away with 4 washers at £3 each  :'(  swapped them over filled up and I cant see any leaks, I will be putting it all back together tomorrow and hope to have the old girl back on the road for the first time in about 3 weeks.

Bit of 6mm Twin and Earth doesn't do a bad job  :y

Yep thats what you need guys, it's flexible enough to be bent a bit but stiff enough to clear any blockages, about a meter should do it.

Quick question guys, I'm just about to put the sealant on my new plate and torque it down, the guide says the two 30mm nuts are torqued to 30NM, then it says torque down the eight bolts that hold the cover in place but doesent give a figure, 30NM ok again ?
