Omega General Help / Re: v6 exhaust
« on: 15 July 2017, 10:36:15 »
I bought one of these about 9 months ago. Came with new hangers and bolts for the unions to the cats. The tail-pipe is tubular and silver as opposed to oval and black on the Vauxhall original (which lasted over 10 years).  Otherwise it seems to fit and works fine with thicker metal than perhaps it might have been. Delivered from Germany in a couple of days. Did the best offer and got it for around £80 delivered. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251165535785?ul_noapp=true

Where's best to get a cam belt and tensioner / rollers for a Z22XE 2.2L in an Omega?

I expect that we should also do the water pump? I imagine I should also renew the auxiliary drive belt? Anything else we might need, such as new bolts? I'm assuming I'll be able to borrow a cam locking kit from a neighbour, although I have one for a V6.

Any advice much appreciated?
Thanks,

Omega General Help / Re: OBD-ii scanner for 2003 2.2 auto?
« on: 13 July 2017, 11:10:54 »
Thanks for the suggestion but that device comes from China, so will likely take a month or more to get here. And I don't really want to mess around looking for software. I want something quick that works on a 2003 Omega. If it works on other makes of car such as a Skoda and if it also works on a 1996 Omega then that's a bonus.

Does anybody know if these "Tech2" scanners are any use? They seem to be selling like hotcakes.

Omega General Help / OBD-ii scanner for 2003 2.2 auto?

Any recommendation for a fault scanner / reset tool for a 2003 Omega 2.2 CDX auto. I have access to one of these off ebay but it doesn't want to work with the Omega.

Thanks for your reply.

It was the part number of the hose that has split that I needed to identify. It is 90466222 (GM 18 18 432) @ £7.60+vat from Autovaux.

VAICO V40-1313 does not seem to be an Omega part, it only has one outlet port. My valve would be the VAICO V40-1312. My existing valve seems to be working fine with no leaks so I guess the hose spilt due to old age and hopefully not a blockage somewhere. Anyway I think I will replace the valve since it's off the car and nearly 20 years old. Seems 90466947 supercedes mine and is £10.48+vat for a German aftermarket, also from Autovaux.

I imagine I should also take the opportunity to back-flush the heater matrix since the bulkhead heater hoses in the engine bay are disconnected from the bypass valve and are accessible?

How about back-flushing the engine block? Is the coolant still trapped in the block by the closed (cold) thermostat? IE if I connect a hose to the spigot where my split hose connected is water going to flow out the bridging hose that connects both sides of the engine to the bypass valve?

Thanks,

My 1996 (MY '97) Omega V6 2.5 auto has sprung a coolant leak. The hose that connects to the inlet port of the heater matrix bypass valve has split just behind the clip that secures it onto the spigot at the rear of the engine. I would appreciate it if somebody could identify the part number for this hose, please see the photo. The split is visible at the bottom right.

Also I am wondering why it split? Is it just old age or is it symptomatic of some other problem? Coolant was ejected from the split when the engine was up to temperature and the radiator fan started up. The heater was working OK before this happened. The temp gauge was pretty stable between 92-95 deg, so no overheating. And it always came up to temperature. So can I assume the thermostat and the water pump are working and nothing is blocked?

Also my bypass valve is marked "GM 90 457 649 -[A" and underneath "90 457 666". Why are there two part numbers? Since these valves are apparently problematic, I imagine I should replace it since I've got it off the car?

Many thanks,

Thanks for the reply. Indeed I had thought that they were likely to be oil ways.
Looks like placement of the dab of black sealant needs to be quite accurate else re-instating the cover might push sealant into the hole?
Am I trying to achieve sealant on only on the outside edge of the seal or underneath it?

Omega General Help / V6 Cam cover seals - what are these holes?
« on: 28 July 2015, 23:36:35 »
I am in the process of replacing the cam cover seals on a '96 V6. I have just noticed blocked holes / drillings
either side of the camshaft caps right beside where you put a dab of the black sealant. If you look at the seal itself it seems to be designed to stay clear of the holes when the cover is mounted.

Some of my drillings seem to be blocked with the old sealant gone rock hard. What are the holes for and do they have to be cleaned out? How best to do it? I seem to have had some success with a small drill bit. How do you stop the new sealant being pushed into the drillings when the cam cover is put in place?

Or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks,

Omega General Help / Re: Omega idler arm - where to get?
« on: 27 October 2011, 13:53:28 »
Carnut mentioned in a for sale thread earlier that he has a new Lemforder idler for sale.Might be worth dropping him a PM. :y
Thanks for that. I sent a PM but have had no response. And I don't have enough posts to reply in the original thread.
Nobody seems to have the Lemforder idler arm at the moment. Where arms are available they don't know who the real maker is. So likely Chinese chocolate. Also tried Vauxhall dealer - on backorder. No reliable ETA at the moment.
I need one so as I can pass MOT. If I can get the car back to them within the 10 days, then just that one item needs to be checked.

Well All German Parts accepted my order for one. For next day delivery. £55.60 inc the delivery charge. So let's see what happens.

Seemed to be plenty of parts out there, but are they the Chinese chocolate bush version or genuine? So a bit pricey maybe. But at least I can have some confidence it will work.

Got an advisory on the rear shocks. So might replace those as well. What is best at a good price? Model year '97 Omega 2.5 V6 CDX.
Update. All German Parts have not got the idler arm. ETA 4th Nov. Nor has nearest Vauxhall main dealer.
There are some on EBay. But are the good ones or the chocolate version?

PS. Is there a post edit button somewhere? Can't see one. Am I losing the plot?
Thanks,

Omega General Help / Omega idler arm - where to get?
« on: 24 October 2011, 17:06:29 »
Some years ago I made the mistake of buying the chocolate bushed version of the Omega idler arm. The one on the nearside. As discussed in this thread.
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=78614.msg1046727#msg1046727
Anyway it slowly deteriorated and is now an MOT fail.

Anyone know which ones one currently on EBay are good and which are crap?
Or where else to get in a hurry at reasonable cost.

Thanks,

Omega General Help / Re: sensors on the exhaust system
« on: 24 July 2010, 22:51:45 »
For the record;

I still have an original bolt still in bag, I bought four new ones from Vauxhall at the time and only used three. I remember noticing the lack of corrosion on the originals. The unused one is dull grey.

The are M8x35. The hex head is deeper than standard at 7mm versus 5.25 or so. Standard 13mm across the flats.

The bag it came in is marked GM #24434133 and the cat number is 8 55 967, Made in Germany.

The head has makers mark KX2 and the grade is A.

Mine snapped off inside the threaded part of the cat and I also remember rooting aroung in the darkest depths of my toolbox for a harder drill-bit.

So some form of stainless steel methinks but not the standard A2. I guess 8.8 would be fine. But the heat and road spray will corrode them. And next time you need to separate the exhaust = £$%><@*.

As I recall the centre boxes to cat bolts are (fine metric?) stainless steel, two per side and not available in the likes of B&Q. I would replace with new stainless or else they will all shear off next you want to separate them ;).

If any of the the bolts shear off you will need hardened drill bits to drill out. (The bolts screw into theaded holes on the cat side.)

I damaged the threads on one of mine, so I  I used a longer stainless steel bolt with a stainless locknut and washer and it's been fine.

Stainless bolts can be had from a Vaux dealer, engineering supplier or marine chandlers. Or the internet.

Omega General Help / Re: steering idler nonsense!!
« on: 22 July 2010, 04:23:36 »
:-[I replaced the idler on my '96 2.5CDX about two years ago. It was never entirely satisfactory and now it's worse than ever. OK. I am an idiot, it seems very likely I bought the crap version.

So I am going to buy the good version but I just can't face trying to separate it again, it took me all day last time. So does anybody know where to get a splitter that works for a reasonable cost. Neither of the ones I have would fit.

Thanks.
