Wanted: pics of alloys on Omega
« on: 25 March 2008, 23:49:06 »

Hi Guys

I'm looking to replace my MV6 wheels hopefully with some 18"s. I would appreciate if you could post some pics of your alloys on the car so that I can get some idea of what I would like or what would look nice on the car.

Ideally I would like the two tone effect of the MV6 so if anyone has any recommendations, that would be great.

Thanks

Well, they are two tone, even if they're a bit mental!

These are Astra Wheels 18x7.5  offset is 37mm you can get them easily on your side of the pond...  tires are 225/40-18
Sorry For the many pictures I just wanted to show you what they look like from many angles... look around in my old posts if you want more or simply let me know...

Good luck with your choice...

I would also recommend these BBS wheels out of a Saab 9-3... 18s... great looks with the plished lips...

As well as these EUROMAX 612s... you can get them in a variety of sizes... and they are cheap too.. I think these will be my next wheels...

And these GM Forged 10Spoke rims... which I still have... planning to sell them but I am going to ask at least 150$/pc... as they are extremely rare and very strong/light

You forgot to tell him about the H&R 25mm spacers you have on the rear or did you take them off for the Astra wheels?

Nope they are still on there... I keep them on all the time...
The Astra wheels look a bit tucked in without them... but some people dont mind that look I guess... I like the back to be as wide as possible...

Now I just have to figure out a way to get rid of 2 sets of Catera Sport rims... and the Forged GM wheels... I need some new tires...

Now ,this is not my actual car although mine is the same model /colour but after seeing this I bought a set off Ebay .Unfortunatley they were the wrong offset so I've just bought a set of facelift Elite wheels instead but I thought the BK Racing 299's looked fantastic on the Estate .

I like those 2 tone that Albatross posted.

The shame with those sort of wheels is the dont reverse the design for O/S and N/S fitting.

Totally agree. There are some really nice designs out there, not least the nice standard one's on my other halfs pug 306, that look great from one side, but on the other they look as though they are going the wrong way round.

These are 17" Azevs fitted on mine. They're 10J width on the rear with 265x40x17 tyres and 8J width on the front with 235x40x17 tyres.

What's the offset of your front and rear wheels please Bob?

Also, are your front tyres really 235 x 40's? Shouldn't they be 45's to keep the rolling radius correct?

To be perfectly honest I haven't got a clue what the offset is. :-/ The wheels were already fitted on the car when I bought it a year ago from Big Rod and he originally intended them for a Lotus Carlton. I did ask Big Rod about the offset but he couldn't remember but he did say the ET No. should be on the wheel, but I can't find it. Likewise, the tyre size that they came with was 40's, so when I replaced them I fitted the same size. What difference would this make to the rolling radius? I don't seem to have any problems with speed accuracy etc. Maybe a question for the General Help section? :-/

The ET will be marked on the inside of the wheel, usually on one of the spokes.

To calculate the rolling radius use http://www.club80-90syncro.co.uk/Syncro_website/TechnicalPages/TRC%20calculator.htm. Input the values of the standard wheel on the left and the new wheels on the right.

Well, I checked it out but I'm not sure how to interpret the results as I'm not very technical in this area. :-/

Your back tyres are the right rolling radius, and I'm guessing this is where the speedo and tacho are monitored from so will be accurate. Your front tyres are too small for an Omega. I don't suppose it matters massively except you're front wheels are rotating more often than they need to which will wear them marginally faster. Additionally the comfort factor will be compromised a touch.

Thanks Nathan, might be worth fitting 45's to the front then. :y
