well it seems like at some point the aux belt had shredded, i took the cam cover off and there was remnants of a belt sitting on the water pump, also some behind the pulley and rapped around the water pump shaft, the cam belt is intact but has loads of splits, on the passenger side bank the exhaust cam is 2 teeth out and the inlet is 1 tooth out, didnt get time to take the head off so will be doing that tomorrow, i will be putting a new water pump on it just in case, also a new cam belt kit, and rocker cover gaskets as they r leaking too, so not too bad really, have got a few other things to sort like the rear blind doesnt work, it just clicks, on the cd player the flap where the cartridge goes doesnt open, a couple of buttons on the air con are worn out too, so all in all i still think i got a good car from a great price....

Well what a good day i have had! before we planned to take the head off we did a compression test and all were over 140psi the highest was 180, so we timed it up and put it back together just enuff to start it and guess what? yep it ran and it is sweet as a nut!! just alittle smoke but i think that was down to one of the plug holes was full up with oil, so just a cam belt kit, plugs, all the filters and water pump to get, oh yes and the rocker cover gaskets...so im a very happy hector, and it has half a tank of petrol in it too!! what a result!!!!

yeah in all honesty i think he would be ok about it, my mate is a mobile mechanic and he got the call about it, and by the time he went round to look at it(4 days) the chap went out and bought a 52 plate 3.2 Elite in black and lost all interest in this one....

Well all back together today, and all is fine, the engine is as sweet as a nut, got a SKF belt kit from Euro's for £86 + vat (gates belt) which i thought was a good price, got genuine cam cover gaskets + o rings, new set of bosch super 4 plugs, gave it a good clean inside and out then took it for a nice drive and boy is it great! its a world apart from my old 98 2.0ltr, this is smooth, quiet and fair bit quicker!  so all in all im very very happy, all now to do is the drivers seat doesnt go all the way forward, and the rear blind doesnt go up, it clicks but doesnt move.....
