For info, one of the main causes of alloy corrosion is high iron content brake pads...........

The problem with that is knowing which pads do and which don't have high iron content. It's not like they have food type labels on them!

You have to research it a bit, by default all the cheap stuff does have a high iron content (it is cheaper to make and reduces brake squeal), you have to find them with a high ceramic content instead (some sites do mention the pad composition).
Fair to say that the once big brands but now exclusive to euroshite, like Pagid, fall into the high iron category?

What about offical JLR ones?  Although I would baulk at the £150 the dealer quoted me for a set, with discounts. Especially at the rate I get through them.

It might be more cost effective to take a defensive driving course ::)

The JLR ones are high ceramic content, no idea who makes them but, likely to be ATE or TRW given that's where most of the brake setup comes from.

I note the likes of Jurid, EBC, ATE and TRW make high ceramic content pads

Every brake application should be a full on emergency stop.  Anything else is just getting in the way ;D

Obviously if you can do without the wheels for a spell, then the price drops accordingly ;)
Yeah, exactly :)

The hassle is finding a way to keep a car lifted off the ground without wheels on.  I'm not comfortable enough with stands for that, esp given JLR's warnings about ensuring it stays flat when being lifted.

Presume they send you a pile of bricks Steve.  ;)

They come and do it for you, Ron. No appointment necessary, they just turn up.

They certainly don't generate much dust, but the disks always looked really glazed, no matter how enthusiastically they were used. Hence mine currently wears a set of Mintex pads to restore the condition of them, and they have improved the pedal feel quite a bit.  :-\
