Omega General Help / question on tractor lift pump
« on: 11 February 2012, 19:27:52 »
I saw the manual for lift pump diagnosis.
But want to know one thing, two actually
Can you submerge the lift pump in anything (like degreaser or else)  and start it?
also in the manual it is stated to make male spades and run the pump over a battery.
Does this mean to simply connect the pump to a energy source and run it shortly, or to connect it than reverse the polarity and again reverse...?
Sorry may seem like a stupif question but I need this solved rather quickly

General Car Chat / buying another mig opinions on engine please
« on: 09 February 2012, 21:24:01 »
I'm thinking of buying another mig.
Found one 1999 2.5td estate with auto gearbox.
Car covered around 110 000 miles and looks really ok on pics.
Didn't have a diesel mig before so need some opinions on these engines and gearboxes.
All advices are welcome

General Car Chat / had to sell my mig
« on: 06 October 2011, 14:48:18 »
I had to sell my mig few days ago  :(
After being without a job for 3 months now I simply couldn't afford to give her all the care and servicing she needed.
Will stay on the forum as an member,I could always try to help to other members at least with advice I hope.
Maybe in the future I get another mig who knows.
Just wanted to share these bad news with fellow forum members.
Although I must admitt that the guy who bought the mig seems ok and will take care of it.

General Car Chat / Dave DND help needed
« on: 06 October 2011, 14:10:18 »
This is not an Omega problem but a mazda one.
Since everywhere in this country I asked nobody was abe to help.
Dave DND I could use some info if you can please help.
I bought a mazda 323f year 2001 (had to sell my mig due to high running costs  :( ).
The stereo in the car is double din (Clarion i think) and of course it only plays original cd-s and not even all of them, actually very few play ok.
The same stereo was also in mx5 as far as I've seen.
I'm looking to replace the unit (still haven't decided on 1din or 2din unit).
But I cannot find the fascia for the mazda.
I know there were the same mazdas like mine that came with a single din opening and a plastic containing the storage hole and a clock. Can this be placed instead of my 2din unit an a standard 1din unit bellow or upwards depending where I put this(if I am able to source this plastic at all)?
Or what kind of fascia panel should I look for(1 or 2 din depending on the stereo)?
I now I'm a bit pain in the ass but here people were convincing me that these fascias for this mazda don't even exist.
Thanks in advance for any help provided

Maintenance Guides / omega headlight lens cover reconditioning
« on: 02 June 2010, 23:35:07 »
Hope you guys and ladies will find this useful.

All newer cars and migs have polycarbonate plastic as headlight cover. This is very strong and resistant but is affected by stone chips, uv light (sunlight) and becomes dull over time. Not sure about first migs but later prefacelift with projectors and facelifts are all affected by this problem.

Tools needed to sort this are, masking tape, warm water, wet sandpaper 800, 1200 1500 2500, orange or yellow polishing pad and plastic polish, Greygate used (Meguiars PlastX or similar)

On the lower pic dullness of the lens is really shown.

These are HID lamps and I was driving like a Batman through the night, actually more like a bat cause couldn't see anything with dipped beam on.
So let's start. take a bucket of warm  water, drop the sandpaper in and a few drops of car shampoo and leave it for half an hour. Mask the surrounding of the headlight with a tape, take the 800 grit sandpaper and start rubbing it with moderate pressure. Do not forget to dip the paper in water frequently or spray the lens with water while you are rubbing. Try to remove all stone chips damage if you have it. Don't worry if the lens go milky. In severe damage cases start with 500 grit but be careful with this sandpaper
here is the pic after 800 grit

Now take the 1200 grit and repeat the process. Glass can go even milkier than before, I used car shampoo with wax so headlight was VERY milky when it dried a bit after sanding with 1200 grit. Surface should feel smother now than after 800 grit

Pic is bellow

After a big break and moaning about you arm repeat the process with 1500 grit surface, do not forget to dip the sandpaper in water often.

Pic is bellow.

At the end use 2500 grit. On he lower pic you can see on the left (uk drivers side) a lamp after 2500 grit polishing and on the right the one which was done with 1200 grit.

Lens will still go milky after 2500 grit especially when it dries out, now wash it and dry it off.
Take a polishing pad and plastic polish, I used Greygate and polish it.
WARNING, if you are gong to machine polish it, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT polish one place too long but move the machine constantly over the headlight. If you polish by machine in one place too long you will burn the plastic.. Polish it to shine.
Lamp after polishing is bellow, job done

Put some wax or sealant over headlight to protect it, admire your work for a while, and then go to the pharmacy and buy some painkillers cause your arms will fall off tomorrow.
Hope you find this useful, and sorry for the poor pics.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / DaveDNDs' opinion needed
« on: 29 March 2011, 09:55:00 »
Dave, a small advice is needed.
I currently have a Blaupunkt Rome NAV55E head unit, and have a chance to trade it and some cash for an Kenwood dx7100 double din unit.
Have no experience with these so anything to look out for.
Guess these should be fairly good units but cannot find much info on the net either.
Any advice is more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Also any other guys who have experience with these keenwod units or something similar are welcomed for any advice they can provide

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / d2s bulbs question
« on: 11 January 2011, 10:14:08 »
I know these bulbs degrade over time, but want to know how much do they degrade.
Bulbs on my mig are still original ones that came with the car (mig is  facelift 1999). The colour of the bulbs is still ok but I was wandering about the intensity of the light
The problem is that I have nothing to compare them with  (facelift omegas are very rare here)
Car has 189 000 km on the clock so the bubls were used relatively often.

Didn't drive the mig for 5 days and today car is completely dead. Cannot even switch the small internal light on.
Car didn't have the alarm turned on. Didn't leave the lights or anything like that on. The weather was bad for the last two days(raining most of the time).
Battery isn't too old (20 months maybe).
Anyone have an idea what can be the cause.
Thanks in advance

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / best place for gps antena?
« on: 05 August 2010, 10:17:35 »
I got a new headunit (Blaupunkt Rome) that has gps capability. Have to fit the antena but can't make up my mind where to mount it.
Don't fancy an outdoor mounting so it has to be inside the car.
Anyone mounted one of these in the car and if he/she did, where?
Obvious places are rear parcel shelf or dash.
If someone has a good idea I will gladly consider it.
Thanks in advance

Just bought this and waiting to arrive.
Never had a Blaupunkt unit, so have no experience witzh them at all.
Anyone got this or something similar?
Any annoying problems with this manufacturer?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / xenon bulbs help?
« on: 19 March 2010, 15:20:19 »
Do these things degrade over time?
The ones on my mig are still factory fitted ones, and they don't seem pretty strong, but the light colour is still ok
Lenses could use a polishing but nothing urgent so I guess the bulbs are not that good anymore. Have no mig with xenons to compare anywhere near here

This is not an mig related question but will post here cause it is definitely  an electrical related.
My friend xas a XF with premium luxury equipment.
Looks like when he bought the car the dealer stole the gps module (rewriutten the contract and removed the gps module from the car).
The friend contacted the service in Austria and they told him the car had gps installed in factory as standard.
So when he called the same dealer and asked can he buy the module as an extra the dealer wanted 10,000 Euro-s for it  ;D
I really have no experience with the factory installed gps devices, but need to know some information.
What kind of gps are we talking here about?
If it is only some sort of module can you use some other similar module which will work with the car?
I know the questions are difficult but hopefully someone will be able to provide a little help

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Small help from DaveDND needed
« on: 25 January 2010, 17:21:39 »
Dave I need a little explanation.
Double Din units which are advertised as steering control ready, what does this mean?
Do you need an adapter also for them or they simply connect to some existing wires coming from the steering wheel?
Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / window switches wiring
« on: 10 September 2009, 22:29:42 »
Okay this is a bit tricky quetion.
I managed to break mine, ordered one from another OOF member here and it works great. The only problem, my car is Opel not Vauxhall and the closer switch to me is now the one for the drivers side window. I dont how how it is in UK but here the left switch (one further away) is the drivers side, and now it is the oposite. Does anyone know which wires control the front windows?? I will do a little rewiring (replace left and right) if I get the info needed.
Oh the car is facelift with electric windows both front and back
