what do your recommend for 2.6 saloon rear coil springs?
« on: 27 January 2021, 18:19:51 »

I was wandering what springs that people have used on their 2.6 or other V6 saloons?  I recently put a pair of these in the link below, for the MOT in November, but i'm not happy with them. The back end seems to drop, with two people who are not heavy and shopping in the boot. I was wandering if there is any that will give a little bit less sag, with people in the back.

Link to the ones I purchased.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fits-Vauxhall-Omega-Saloon-Kilen-Rear-Suspension-Constant-Coil-Springs-Pair/293090348641?hash=item443d8bce61:g:fSYAAOSwuIRc3Ebd

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

The part number of the ones you fitted bear no resemblance to the correct ones :-\

If you go on the EPC which lists the genuine springs for all models, you will be surprised at the number of variants in the listings. Having tried various makes, there is no substitute for genuine original spec springs. Many manufacturers have a 'one spring fits all' approach, which invariably results on an incorrect ride height - usually jacked up at the rear like a dragster.
If your car has self levelling suspension then the original springs are softer but are compensated with correctly working rear shocks to maintain the correct ride height even under load. If you put a stiffer spring from standard sispension this can give an incorrrct ride height.
Personally, although more money, I only use genuine VX springs to ensure the car sits as intended.
Some on here will poo poo this, but if other than the genuine springs are fitted, you cannot guarantee the back end will be correct.
If it does have self levelling, the compressor needs to be the checked to ensure it is working correctly to maintain the ride height, although being a CD spec it probably won't have.
I have tried various options of springs in the past, but always gone back to genuine.
Just my thoughts based on my own experiences.

You presume that genuine new springs are readily available, which if self levelling shocks are anything to go by, most are long since NLS.  ::)

Plod springs and self levelling best combo, but HD springs are a close second imho, in particular if self levelling has been deleted.

If the springs that were fitted are Elite self levelling spec ones fitted to standard shocks then it will as soft and soggy as a wet soufflé... Especially with anything approaching a load in the back.

The part number of the ones fitted is NOT in the Kilen catelogue as an Omega B Saloon spring, which suggests it's wrong.

Rather than just assuming they may be NLS, a quick call / visit to your local VX dealer will confirm the actual part no relevant to your vehicle, and equally as important, the Ident. no (two letters such as LA, LC, LP etc etc) and whether they are still available. They should be able to search in Europe as well if they know the correct buttons to press on the keyboard.
You could then search the internet yourself with these numbers  - searching Germany can reveal hidden treasurers  :y
That's how I have several sets of brand new saloon self levelling shocks 'in stock'  :y :D - if you get the right parts chap, it's surprising what they can come up with....

Getting parts from Europe might incur a customs charge right now, I've read some right horror stories about couriers refusing to hand over goods until the customer coughs up.

Nothing new there... Parcelfarce have been doing that for years.  ::)

A valid point nevertheless, and shipping costs from Euro Disney looks to have risen slightly. It is what it is, but another factor to consider re the cost of an item :y

Recently, I have been on the lookout for a LH genuine GM wishbone, and I managed to find one in the Ukraine ::). It was a good price even with the delivery, but unfortunately, I had to pay import duties to Royal Mail in November before they delivered it. It put an extra 30 odd quid on the cost, which was more annoying than anything else, but it is what it is if you want genuine parts.....

Pop out the ball joint, invert and refit. But don't let that get in the way of hijacking Addys thread :-X

Doctor Gollum. What annoyed me is I contacted the seller first and even looked at the kilen catalogue aswell. I have had it Bookmarked, since doing the fronts on mine and sorting ones for the wifes Omega, to check they were the correct ones. My car never had Self Levelling from factory and is the 2.6 CD model. I obviously cocked it up somewhere.  ::)  I will get the ones on your link.

No worries johnnydog, as you say postal charges from some countries, is nearly as much as the part itself. :-[

Thanks for your help.

Haven't we been through all this already, please see here July 2020? Seems to me that the Kilen springs that you need are 60037 which are heavy duty or 260640 standard duty inconstant springs. Doc Gollum recommended the 60037.

Don't rely on ebay, or the sellers. It's best to directly check the manufacturers application lists.

For a 2.6 saloon without self levelling Kilen lists three possibilities.
71026 = Coil spring with constant wire diameter = GM 90487520
260640 = Coil spring with inconstant wire diameter = GM 90487520
60037 = Coil spring with constant wire diameter; Reinforced Version = GM # not stated

So the 60037 springs will fit, just they are reinforced which presumably means heavy duty.
My guess is that the 260640 inconstant spring is a standard duty but improved version of the 71026 standard constant wire spring.

Hi Doctor Gollum

Thank you for the link to the pair of springs. I contacted the company to purchase them. They asked for my Reg No. And are now saying that they will not fit my car. It is standard setup not self levelling. I will believe the members advise on here more than their's. If I purchase the pair in your link (Kilen Code 60037), will they fit with no problems?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-60037-KILEN-REAR-COIL-SPRING-SUSPENSION-PAIR-OE-QUALITY-/283760156449

Sorry for asking.

Thanks for all the help. Take care

We have, but somehow the OP ended up with completely different springs. Hopefully buying the correct ones will resolve this :y

Hi Enceladus

I probably did ask a while back. Since then I have had a stroke, that took out my communication, reading and speech. I still have problems now, you could say one thing to me, but it would register as something else. On a bad day I cannot even string a sentence together.

Sorry I asked the same question again and waisted peoples time.  I appreciate all the help given to me, so I can now get the correct ones sorted. I was always taught if you are not sure, ask even if you have asked before.

Take care

I had forgotten about your situation, so absolutely no apologies for asking the same thing again. It is something in itself that you are making positive progress  :y

That's the ident code to quickly identify the correct parts for assembly in the factory...

For example, the page linked to is for Non Police saloons of certain production trim codes (25,26, M69 etc) LS is for non armoured, rough roads...

There were variations for Amoured, Ambulance, Police, Lowered Sports Chassis, Self Levelling, Limousine, Hearse, and that's on top of the basic body style and engine, although the engine only affects the front springs.

Aftermarket, you're limited to saloon/estate, LSC/standard/self levelling/HD.

Whilst a HD aftermarket spring will probably be a fair swap for a Police or Rough Road Factory spring, it would be unlikely to be suitable for Ambulance/Hearse/Armoured/Limousine.

Put another way,

A spring marked LS is only for an Unamoured Rough Road optioned Saloon of a certain trim spec.
